I do NOT get the movie "Mulholland Falls" DAMNIT!!!
Is David Lynch smarter than me or is he just trying to confuse people with this movie?

Bought the DVD yesterday, watching it now, do NOT get it.

P.S. Is it bad that I've missed chunks of it because of needing to eat dinner, answer phone, etc? I can't find the pause button on my remote. I am technologically challenged.

1. I've read interviews where he has stated that there's really
nothing to get.

it's a great movie, but it requires a lot of work. (BTW, it's Mulholland Drive... maybe you watched something else? :) )

Salon had a great article about it...

http://dir.salon.com/ent/movies/feature/2001/10/23/mulholland_drive_analysis/index.html

edit: here's the first two answers:

What the fuck is going on in this movie?

Well, it seems that Diane had her girlfriend murdered. Then, in a masturbatory fantasy cum fever dream in the moments before she commits suicide, she reimagines her ruined career and failed relationship with the woman she loves.

The dream begins with Camilla/Rita miraculously escaping the hit Diane had taken out on her. From there, Diane, a product of Hollywood, imagines the story in cinematic fashion: She sees herself as the naive wannabe starlet Betty, who succeeds on sheer talent and solves whatever problems are thrown her way. She even gets the girl!

Thematically, Lynch seems to be working out a number of things: the enticing but empty imagery of the movie screen; the accompanying imagery that is used as stardust to cover up the unpleasantries of the movie-making process; the imagery that the ambitious use to reimagine and remake themselves; and the imagery and imagination actors put to work to create their characters.

Wait, go back to the Diane and Rita stuff. Where does Betty fit in?

Diane and Betty are the same person.

4. DANG!!!
I just asked my cohabitating partner for life person what it is called and he said MULHOLLAND DRIVE in a really pissy way.

Wonder what crawled up HIS ass?

Anyway, thanks you are right.

7. No shit
but I don't think the Amish spend hours downloading music off the internet and drinking Crown Royal and Diet Coke, do they? Or demand that their shorts be 100% polyester?

If he's Amish, he's a shitty Amish.

8. Watch it again.
Lynch makes the kind of movies that sometimes require more than one viewing to "get." (Although it was clear to me what was going on the first time I saw MD. It helps to have seen others of his films, as there are certain themes he deals with repeatedly -- like the intersection of dreams and reality.)

11. Read the article, finished the movie
wish I hadn't bought the DVD. Good news? It was only $5, pre-viewed.

The article DID help, but sheesh.......I'm American, don't ask me to do THAT much work in a movie unless it is bashing bush, ok?

13. you don't want to try to hard to "get"
David Lynch. It will drive you to distraction. Did you ever see his TV series? Those are about as "linear" as he gets, with the exception of The Straight Story ( think that's what it's called)

16. Yeah. Gimme the Dukes of Hazzard 1st season DVDs any day
Oh wait, I had the original "Mulholland Drive" mixed up with "the brothers McMullen". It was "The brothers McMullen" that sucked. It sucked so bad that it somehow got into the the letters "Mul" and tranfered its horrid suckitude to other items containing "mul". Such as Mullets. I've yet to see Mulholland falls or Mulholland drive, but my expectations after the McMullen shit-fest certainly is not high.

Short version: Sorry for getting a movie I have not seen confused with one I hated.

18. LOL...
yeah, mullets suck, too.

Check out Mulholland Drive - when I first saw it I was :wtf: but then I read a little about it and things fell into place.

Now, over a year later, certain scenes and images are still etched in my brain.

21. I think my partner person
did too. He was on the computer most of the time, but oddly, made it a point to stop dicking around on the internet long enough to really pay attention to all naked boobie and lesbiana scenes.
