Wiccans again. Where's that can of Raid?
I stumbled across yet another "wiccan" while surfing weblogs today. As per the Wiccan club membership oath, she was throwing the mandatory temper tantrum about those dirty ol' mean oppressive Christians and their mean old proselytizing.
Color me unimpressed and unsurprised.
I am yet to meet a single "neopagan" online or anywhere else who wasn't at heart an immature, tempestuous brat with a predilection for throwing sanctimonious fits at anyone who has the temerity to exercise their religion within the same hemisphere as their own Blessed selves.
You know why?
Because Wicca, New Age, Neopaganism, whatever diddly name you care to call it today, attracts only ONE kind of person. Someone who wants to do WHATEVER THEY PLEASE, and who throws a FIT if anyone else tells them what they're doing is wrong.
Wicca is custom-made for the self-serving. Cut and paste as you please, if you don't like the doctrine, why, fetch the white out, blot it out of your bargain bin "Guide to Witchcraft 101" and write in what feels groovy to you.
And best of all, it actually gives you a way to feel self-righteous about opposing the spread of Christianity.
The unspoken Meta-rule of Wicca: The worst most horrible thing in the world you can do is proselytize.
"Proselytizing" defined as 1) Believing you have God's message to humanity--- otherwise known as believing your religion is actually true 2) Behaving as if the moral creed handed down in that faith mattered 3) Believing God ordered His followers to share that message.
Only in the Whoopie Witch World is believing your own Gospel and trying to persuade others of its truth an "oppressive act." Only in the Piss-Off-Mummy-and-Daddy religion does any social acknowledgement of the bare minimal moral code of Christianity equate to "religious persecution." Only to a pagan brat does a theology that explicitly depends upon the voluntary acceptance of its doctrines for its propagation serve as a coercive villain.
Of course, to a spoiled and temperamental child, any authority figure--- God, parent, Moral Law-- is the "oppressor." And the response is predictable: tiny fists clenched over ears, tiny feet clamped over ears, beet-red face and wide open mouth as the little darling screams "WILL NOT WILL NOT SHUT UP" at the top of his dulcet little lungs.
Wiccan behavior in the face of Judeo Christian Western civilization is not one whit different or superior.
Disregard that the hash of superstition, nature worship, dead cults and "do as thou wilt" has produced "civilizations" that are universally regarded as the social and cultural armpits of the world, where poverty, disease, tribal factionism, witch-hunts, witch-doctor ignorance and all around abominable backwardness have been the rule for thousands of years. Disregard that the Judeo Christian society they so despise for it's "oppressiveness" and "proselytizing" has produced the very same prosperous society in which they can indulge themselves by behaving like spoilt brats.
Here's a poser for the crystal-waving crowd: If pagan theology is so superior to Christianity, why did pagans by the tens of thousands willingly convert to Christianity from ancient Rome onward, even when it meant certain death at the hands of their fellow countrymen if they were caught?
Oh, one other thing for the Hogwart's wannabees: Does my dialogue offend you? Does the Christian lady at work saying "God bless you" get your back up? Do you think you're disenfranchised when the office puts up Christmas decorations and a nativity scene? Do you feel "intimidated and oppressed" when someone hands you a bible tract?
GROW SOME HAIRS, YOU MEWLING PUKING WHINY WAND WAVING PUSSIES.
You don't know JACK SQUAT about oppression, you little Hot Topic retard. When the nation's leaders round up you and your fellow believers and feeds them to lions in the Coliseum, that's oppression. When they impale you on stakes, flay you alive, throw you into bags filled with scorpions, that's oppression. When they imprison you and torture you for preaching on a streetcorner, that's oppression. When they burn you at the stake for printing your holy books in the native tongue, that's oppression. When you have to flee to another continent to practice your religion, that's oppression. When they outlaw the public display of symbols of your religion, or make it a crime to pray in a public place, or fire you for wishing people well on your deity's behalf, that's oppression.
HAVING SOMEBODY EXPRESS THEIR OWN RELIGION IN YOUR PRESENCE OR EXPRESS IT TOWARD YOU IS NOT OPPRESSION.
And if you think it IS, if you actually honest to fill-in-the-blank feel "afraid" or "intimidated" or "marginalized" when someone else practices their beliefs in your anointed presence or tries to persuade you of their truthfulness, if your "faith" is so hollow and flaccid and flimsy that the mere presence of a bible or a sunday school paper or a "God bless you" unravels your bisquik-ready-made theology, THEN YOU DON'T DESERVE TO BEAR THE MANTLE OF YOUR RELIGION OR ANY OTHER, YOU GUTLESS WONDER.
