1. Assuming
The exhaust system doesn't have any leaks, and you can get the banana(s) in there good enough to not get blown back out again, yes, the engine will stall.

Engines effectively need to breath. (Air and fuel in, exhaust out.) Try not exhaling for a while. Pretty much the same thing will happen to the car.

3. I've heard potatoes work better, but
bananas seemed to work fine for Axel Foley.

4. This was a WW II thing European Resistance fighters
did to German trucks - using a stick to push potatos up exhaust pipes.

6. Mythbusters did this lately; think they concluded it was a hoax
You could check the Discovery Channel's site; Mythbusters is a show on that channel where two Hollywood special effects guys try to debunk various urban legends and other myths. Pretty fun stuff usually.

8. don't know about bananas per se
Edited on Tue Jul-27-04 08:56 AM by jukes
but a blocked exhaust pipe will stall the engine. backed into a mud bank on a dirt road a while back, car stalled, took me a few to realize the tail pipe was packed w/dirt. scraped it out, started fine.

a 12 ga shotshell, glued into a tailpipe won't stall a car, but can be quite amusing (& possibly deadly, it cd burst & ignite the fuel tank if too close) my HS prank was, thankfully, not injurious to anything but that stupid jock's dad-bought exhaust system.

11. Axel Foley.
My name is Rosewood and I have been dying to get back at him for 20 years for doing that to me. (joking)

10. Yes, unless there is an exhaust leak. Actually this is a good way to
check if there is an exhaust leak. Potato probably works better, though. Less messy.
