Edited on Mon Jul-26-04 10:26 AM by underpants

A separated trailer, from a tractor-trailer truck, dangles off the Channel 2 bridge on the Florida Keys' Overseas Highway near Islamorada, Fla., Monday, July 26, 2004, following an accident with a disabled vehicle. The tractor portion of the rig remained on the bridge. One person was taken to a local hospital with unspecified injuries. (AP Photo/Monroe County Sherifff's Office, Aviation Unit)

6. Maybe my wife's hear of low bridges is well founded after all
We had to fly into Key West when we went. We rented a convertable and drove up the keys but stopped short of the 7 mile brdige (or whatever it is) convertable or not she couldn't have survived it.

9. How will that trailer be removed or will it just
be pushed into the water.?

12. Depends
If there's a solid place to hook it, they can bring in a small crane to lift it back over the barrier. It looks like the top split open and the load dumped, so the trailer shouldn't be too heavy.

The problem with this situation is that many trailers have sliding read axles to allow varying weight distributions as loads change. If the mechanism that holds the axles in place was damaged or weakened in the accident, the road crews may find no safe place to hook and lift the trailer. If that's the case, it'll probably just be pushed into the water.
