Horrible Political News About Megadeth's Dave Mustaine
Edited on Sun Jul-25-04 11:35 PM by kwolf68
If you are not familiar with Megadeth or even if you are, most will realize that Dave Mustaine was one of the most outspoken people from the center/left. He challenged the military/industrial complex, said that Peace was a sham because it wasn't profitable to the war profiteers, slammed Bush 41, had a song about "Religious Wars", and even had a song about the outrageous act of "canned hunting."

It seemed nothing was out of ear-shot of this maniac, but I have read an interview that makes me sick. Mustaine has gone from an intelligent, thoughtful person to a goddamn screaming right-wing freak....This pablum sounds like something Toby Keith would say.

RE: Iraq

It needed to happen. The Americans went in there to liberate Iraq. A lot of people dont think they were being liberated because France didnt join in, Germany didnt join in and neither did Russia. The reason they didnt join in was because they had billions of dollars in stake with building the oil fields in the North of Iraq. If there would have been a better man to run the States right now, we would have picked him, its a democratic process. There are a couple of guys who run for office, everybody picks him, he goes to the next level. Shut up, hes the fucking president! Theres gonna be an election, if you dont like him go for the other guy. Dont sit back there and just piss and moan. I see all these guys like Michael Moore going off and Im like dude, you dont have a fucking idea about what youre talking about.

He goes on to bash Michael Moore...

This is what our fist in your face metal gods of the past are all about?

I guess I'm sticking with the masters...Punk Rockers and Liberal activists Bad Religion

(It is worth a note: I understand Dave Mustaine went through some kind of religious experience after he had to disband the band. He is "born again" or something and I guess that means you move right.)

I don't remember where, but this is not completely new to me. Still, it's sad, though. :(

4. Dave is nuts

He is a brash, sarcastic asshole, but is one helluva guitar player and song writer. His lyrics also used to be overtly political...Much like Metallica, he too will probably not touch anything political in his music.

Dave was also a drunk, a drug addict and a very violent person who just happened to be a 3rd degree black belt. Oh lord.

7. back when I was semi-religious,
...I noticed something interesting about the hardest-core Christians, especially the ones who became full-time evangelists. They had invariably either:

1.) done dangerous quantities of illegal drugs and alcohol over several years, or

2.) had serious head injuries requiring hospitalization.

Perhaps we have an example of situation #1 here...

10. LOL

I guess so.

But my all-time favorite band Bad Religion has a member named Brett Gurewitz and he is a recovering addict as well.

But my boy Brett hates Bush worse than Satan assuming they aren't the same person.

At least the punkers in this country are staying with us...the metal clowns are a lost cause if we can't count on Megadeth.

Some things just fit like an old show. If you have a great dog, he's been a loyal friend for years and years and then one day he ups and shits on your carpet for the first time you know its probably time to say good-bye to the pooch.

The day Brett (or ANY of the Bad Religion guys) comes out on the right is the day we shoot this dog.

Bad Religion has been staunch in their perspective since 1981...and the only thing that has changed is they've gotten smarter.

Dave Mustaine should hook up with Toby Keith and Ted Nugent...

6. Yes

And he is starting a war w/ Metallica on that by the way saying they stabbed him in the back.

Gee...Metallica is no better. I think their guitar player Kirk Hammett is probably still with us (he's even a vegan for crying out loud), but who knows.

Metal was never known for being intelligent music, but those two bands usually could deliver it. Sad this happened.

11. Megadeth has always sucked
I am a major metal fan, but I never, ever cared for Megadeth. I always felt Mustaine's politics were superficial and facile, and this confirms it.

Their music was clichd and boring too. My gut has been vindicated all these years.

Give me Slayer or Sepultura any day.

12. I wouldn't say sucked

Although I must agree with you, everything Dave ever said looks like nothing but a facade to wrap about his "punk/thrash" style. He even said he considered his band "the new Sex Pistols."

It was all a gimmick. Unreal.

Still, you can't deny the brilliance of the riffs, the players in that band.

I don't know much about Slayer's politics, but Sepultura is killer I agree. SLayer is still the same Slayer I remember, but I don't know about their politics even though they had a song called "Dittohead"

20. Slayer is with us
"War Ensemble" came out just as Bush and Saddam were gearing up in the fall of '90. Lays out how war is seen as sport, body counts are a measure of success, and propaganda reigns as the medium for popularizing war.

Put it this way, you won't find a Slayer song, or an interview, where they defend Bush or his kind, the way Mustaine did. That's just ill.

Yes...but that was 13 years ago. Megadeth's early stuff is much more cynical as well.

I know Slayer sung about a lot of bad shit in the world, but they never seemed to take a perspective. they just sung about it.

I hope like hell Dave Lombardo and the gang are with us...DL is the baddest drummer who walks earth this side of Neal.

25. Slayer has never sold out
That matters, when you consider the embarrassment Metallica has become, and they both debuted in 1983. I'll take 21 years of "just" playing songs about the strife any day over soft-core selling out and bubble-headed political pontification.

14. I thought that MD's anti-war stance
was a rip-off of Sabbath, while the music itself was a ripoff of Metallica and whatever else was popular at that particular moment. Screachy guitars and screechier vocals -- annoying, as well as being totally derivative shit.

Heard their latest song on the radio a couple of months back -- rap metal. Yeah, Dave, jumping in to the rap-metal scene ten years too late will win you that respect.

Maybe he just pulled a Dennis Miller or John Stosil, and decided there was more money on the wingnut end of things.

I love "Rust In Peace" and Marty Friedman was a hell of a guitarist but there is a reason why Metallica in their heyday has been considered the premier metal band and not Megadeth.

But Metallica's politics probably don't leave a lot to be desired either. Of course, I don't know this...but I wouldn't be shocked.

The band that produced such brilliance as ...And Justice for all and Master of Puppets is likely to be right-wing hacks.

29. The only thing re: Metallica and the war

Is the fact Lars was pissed they were playing their music in prisoner interrogation.

Metallica are particularly unhappy about certain actions the U.S. military has taken in Iraq.

Not the ones that resulted in the collapse of Saddam Hussein's empire the ones in which the band's music was played to extract information from terrified Iraqi prisoners who'd never been exposed to heavy metal.

Speaking to the press in Europe, drummer Lars Ulrich told the World Entertainment News Network that he strongly objects to the use of "Enter Sandman" as a device of coercion. "I feel horrible about this," he said. "No one in Iraq has ever done anything to hurt me, and I don't understand why we have to be implicated in that bullsh--."

Ulrich added that if the Army is intent on using loud music to break Saddam's supporters, they should find something really grating on the ears. "What about firing up some Venom or some of those Norwegian death metal bands?" he proposed. "The problem with that is then it wouldn't be a soundbite. Sometimes Metallica become the token heavy metal band that you can talk about."

Despite his unhappiness, Ulrich said there's nothing he can do about the current situation. "What am I supposed to do about it," he asked, "get George Bush on the phone and tell him to get his generals to play some Venom?"

32. pretty disappointed when I heard that,
especially remembering that this is the Dave Mustaine who covered the DNC in 92 for MTV, and who said that having a dumbass president like dub-ya gave him inspiration like it was for him in the 80's with reagan.

The song "Youthenasia" is just really powerful though...

Who'd believe with the way things are here
We'd be going anywhere telling people
How to live?
Who'd believe we'd spend more
Shippin' drugs and guns
Than to educate our sons? Sorry but
That's what they did

I can't help but think,
Someone's forsaken you and me

Luck deserted me and the truth
Beat out my brains
Men rise on stepping stones of their
Selves to higher things
I've stepped over lots of bodies on my way
Thanks for the information don't need no
More anything

We are the damned of all the world
With sadness in our hearts
The wounded of the wars
We've been hung out to dry
You didn't want us anyway
And now we're making up our minds
You tell us how to run our lives
We run for youthanasia

all the other musicians to shut the fuck up about politics because they don't know anything about how to run a country? Yet here he is, a musician, talking about politics. Idiot!

By the way, Megadeath always sucked donkey balls. I thought that even before I heard this, so I'm not just jumping on the bandwagon. They were a rip-off act that never showed a single shred of originality.

35. Again disagree on the music part
Edited on Mon Jul-26-04 01:15 AM by kwolf68
You will find nothing in the 1980s that sounds ANYTHING like Peace Sells. And the Rush in Peace and Countdown to Extinction albums were great.

Further, it stands to reason that if there were similiarities between 'Deth and 'talica its because Dave wrote much of Metallica's early music when he was in that band.

Still, I argue you will find NOTHING on the market that sounded anything like Megadeth at the time. I totally disagree they were a bad band. They were a great band, with players BETTER than what was in Metallica.

I think Hetfield was a better overall song-writer, but Dave came up with more brutal riffs even if they were the same appreggio, and Marty Friedman could work over Kirk Hammet. Lars could have been a great drummer, but he began to regress after ... and justice for all. Nick Menza and Gar Samuelson were better drummers than Lars.

Cliff Burton v. Dave Ellefson? Give that one to Cliff.

The rest of your comments concerning Dave's hypocrisy is dead ass 100% correct. He's a buffoon as you rightly point out.

36. I would still take Metallica over Megadeath any day
even if Hetfield is a sellout, but everyone's entitled to their own opinion. I was a huge metal fan growing up, but I actually hardly ever listen to it anymore. The only one that I still throw on every once in awhile is Iron Maiden. For some reason, I never seem to get tired of those guys. The rest of them though, I leave to the past.

34. My respones to Davie

It needed to happen. The Americans went in there to liberate Iraq. A lot of people dont think they were being liberated because France didnt join in, Germany didnt join in and neither did Russia.

I thought the Americans went in because Iraq had WOMDs? No, the fact Germany, France and Russia didn't go is/was not the reason people "don't think they were being liberated." All those countries not going in did was create a mass of anti-American sentiment around the globe. Had they gone it under the same pretenses they too would have been wrong.

The reason they didnt join in was because they had billions of dollars in stake with building the oil fields in the North of Iraq.

WTH is Dave talking about here? Many argue this IS WHY we went in...for control over Iraqi oil fields.

The reason Russia, Germany and France supported us when we went into Afghanistan was because Afghanistan is a shit-hole.

Ahhh wrong Dave. The reason Russie, Germany and France supported us in Afghanistan was because this is where Osama Bin Laden (remember him?), the mastermind behind 911 resided and where his terrorist camps were. The fact a nation is a "shit-hole" has NEVER EVER EVER been a reason one nation attacks another. 99% of the time, Nation A attacks Nation B for colonization purposes. This "shit-hole" argument is the dumbest thing ever uttered.

The people I believe are probably very lovely people - Ive never met any Afghanis but, you know, Russia wasnt making billion dollar oil fields up there.

Is this a drug induced flash back? This statement makes absolutely no sense/

Afghanistan was known for its poppy production which results in heroin. Afghanistan is renowned for its hashish.

I am sure the 911 commission is dying for this expert testimony. What is the purpose of this comment?

If Germany, France and Russia went into Iraq, public opinion would be different.

Duh!!! And why is that? Maybe because those 3 nations only wanted a war that was JUSTIFIED?

People in the music business, in America, are talking bad about Bushyou know what? Shut the fuck up!

Free Country hey Dave? Shut up? You mean to suggest I should not exercise my 1st amendment rights?

Youre a musician; you dont know a thing about running a country!

Maybe you don't either which means your admission that Bush is "the right guy" is half-baked non-sense just like you proclaim those "talking about about Bush" is

If there would have been a better man to run the States right now, we would have picked him, its a democratic process.

Is this serious? Was Dave in rehab in 2000? Dave...more Americans voted for Al Gore in 2000 and one State had its state laws over-ruled by the Supreme Court. MANY MANY MANY can argue that this was NOT a democratic process.

Shut up, hes the fucking president!

No way to argue such thoughtful intellect.

Theres gonna be an election, if you dont like him go for the other guy.

Don't worry pal. Already got that plan.

Dont sit back there and just piss and moan.

Dave, that is all you've been doing for 25 years you hypocrite. Should we tell you, "Quit bitching about Metallica, they are Metallica?"
