Word trivia anyone?
Edited on Sun Jul-25-04 05:47 PM by Onlooker
A friend of mine pointed out that the word "psychotherapist" can be split apart to become "psycho, the rapist."

Anyone else have an item of word trivia to share?

2. about people's names
Maybe it's just my weird theory, but it seems very unusual for a person's full name to begin and end with the same letter (like Steve Jones) at least in English language circles.

Maybe because lots of first names begin with J or B or others that don't generally come at the end of names, but I noticed it when I used to do baseball cards. In a huge stack of cards, the only one I found was Steve Ontiveros... wouldn't the odds be 1 in 26, or is it more like 1 in 676 (26x26)?

I think I AM losing my mind.

5. Probably also because many names end in vowels, and not too
Edited on Sun Jul-25-04 06:51 PM by Donkeyboy75
many people's names begin with vowels.

BTW, if all letter occurred with the same frequency, the odds would be 1 in 26...

7. Steve Ontiveros!!
THAT was the crappy baseball card I used to get in EVERY PACK!!! I never even saw him play. When he posed for the card was probably the only time he ever wore the A's uniform.

Sorry.. touched a sore spot :)

8. When you said word trivia..
Trivia comes from the Latin, Tri meaning 'three' and 'via' meaning road. It represents where the road splits. Such sites often had shrines, where travelers would pause and exchange information...
Trivia!

9. Heard this one from Will Shortz on some NPR show
Think of a make of car.
Rearrange the letters and add one.
You have another make of car.

This only works for one pair of car makes.
