My mother has cancer
Wow..... I can't believe these words are coming out of my mouth.

The prognosis is excellent. They removed the lump when the did the biopsy. They'll have to check surrounding lymph nodes for cancer to make sure it hasn't already spread. They will also do a course of radiation to make sure that there isn't any cancer in her system to spread or grow.

My mom is in excellent spirits. To her there is no other option but "I'm going to be fine."

I know she will be fine too.

I guess it's just so hard to swallow. My mom has cancer.

there's a helluva lot of good news in there. She'll get through it - don't let the word scare you so much. Best of luck to you both.

3. I remember those words.
My mother was given no positive outcomes but you have them so keep her spirits up and that will help a lot. It is a shocker. I hope you are OK. Sending good vibes to you and to your mother. I am sorry.

My mom had uterine cancer. She had a hysterectomy and the prognosis was good - no treatments or anything. Ironically, she died nine years later from some sort of heart problem or bloot clot.

8. Sending good wishes to your mom
My best friend is battling liver cancer. It's hard for us to watch and not be able to do much. Of course, we love all over her so she does have that!

Hang in there and let us know if you need anything. The battle is hard but it's even harder if fought alone.

7. I'm relieved for her...and for you...
That it sounds as though they caught it in an early stage...and can treat it to bring it into remission fairly soon. It's always pretty shocking news; I remember when I found out that my mother had advanced breast cancer--that was a hard one to take!

But I bet she's going to pull through in good shape--and in 100% remission! I'll say one for her--and for you!

B-)

Today it seems people are recovering from cancer all the time. By boss had thyroid cancer 8 years ago and has been fine since his initial treatment. I hope the news is good for all her tests.

There have been so many advances since I got out of health care that it boggles the mind. In addition, early detection is the key and it sounds like you got it! My very best wishes to you both.

21. My mom went through it too.
A hellish year but she's fine now.

My next door neighbor, however, got a death sentence this week. His prognosis is he's got two weeks to live. They've brought in Hospice and it's so sad; it's a grim reminder of my own mortality.

Instead of a war on terror, we should be having a war on cancer.

Good luck.

It was a stunning thing to hear myself say. Happily, it turned out okay - he had surgery, radiation, and follow-ups and remained cancer free. It's good that your mom is so positive - that makes a huge difference in her treatment and recovery. Good wishes to both of you!

23. I truly believe...
the most positive thing is that your mom is in excellent spirits. This will help her heal quicker.

My father was an eternal optimist. Whether it was a by-pass or cancer treatment, his point of view was this is the price of admission to life. Optimism is a very powerful medicine.

My thoughts are with your mother, Nancy

27. My thoughts are with you
It seems like mother is handling this well, so if she can, you can.
Positive vibes!!

I would think it would be hard to accept this about your mother but if the outlook is strong for her than your thinking should go from
"My mom has cancer" to "My mom survived cancer and is doing so well"

My mom had a cancer scare earlier this year so in some regards I know how you feel.

You all will get through this together and in the meantime

you have all of us here at DU for love and support.

I just got back in from my commute and dinner w/ my son and a few errands I had to run. What a blessing to have so much support from you all. I've been sitting here with a drink reading all your messages and PMs and I'm overwhelmed.

The news I got today was surreal, but the warmth I got here is just plain amazing.

Thank you all so much.

I'm gonna have a few drinks, hit the sack, and then start tomorrow knowing that everything will be ok.

cancer and other serious diseases can be survived, thank God. My own mother survived a very serious heart aneurism just a couple of months ago, and her recovery is on track. It wasn't looking good there for a while. You sound positive, although I know these things are frightening and mind boggling. My thoughts are with you and your Mom.:pals:
