Best episodes/scenes of M*A*S*H?
Edited on Fri Jul-23-04 12:37 PM by GreenPartyVoter
One of the ones that stick with me most is of course the one when Henry finally goes home, but is shot down on the way. :(

Editing to add: why aren't there more shows of this caliber around?!

1. When Hawkeye is cracking up and is recalling being on a bus and
they are trying to hide from the enemy and a baby keeps crying and its mother smothers it. That was pretty powerful, for a show that was to be a comedy. :hi:

3.  TOO many......
I loved the older ones with Trapper. But a scene that sticks out for me is when the MP's try to take the ginstil and Trapper points a flyswatter at them and says "Careful buddy, this thing could go off"

4. I really like the dream sequence one, from later on
The one where all the principles have various nightmares. Hawkeye floating armless down a river, Margaret with blood on her wedding dress, Charles as a magician who's tricks still won't heal the injured, etc...

I think it was kind of amazing they could pull that one out after the series had been on so long already.

That one chilled me. The whole scene where he had to give up his limbs...wow.

5. When Henry Blake was killed "over the Sea of Inchon (sp?)"
Edited on Fri Jul-23-04 12:32 PM by nemdaille

his "plane went down over the Sea of Inchon." "There were no survivors."

I even remember the quote, which I never do.

I remember I had heard rumors it was coming; I still cried.

To this day if I see the re-run, I still cry.

Maybe it's just me.

edited for correct content

30. A bit of Trivia on that episode.
When they shot it, no one knew what the last scene was. They were told to do a scene with them in surgery and Hawkeye was to say what he says when Radar walks in. They handed Radar the script as he entered the room, and he read from the script. No one was expecting that ending not even the cast.

6. Frank Burns joy riding in the tank and crushing Colonel Potter's Jeep,
among other things. And Colonel Potter calmly pulling out his pistol and "euthanizing" the Jeep.

11. My favorite that makes laugh every time
Is when Hawkeye, B.J. and Potter are falling down drunk, and Potter falls down and B.J. Says "you walk funny" and Potter says "Poor Toilet Training" I don't know why but I find that hilarious.

12. I will not carry a gun, Frank.
When I got thrown into this war I had a clear understanding with the Pentagon: no guns. I'll carry your books, I'll carry a torch, I'll carry a tune, I'll carry on, carry over, carry forward, Cary Grant, cash and carry, carry me back to Old Virginia, I'll even 'hari-kari' if you show me how, but I will not carry a gun.

17. I noticed MASH reruns are back on the air again!
I think it was WB... I know it wasn't cable. As I was watching, I kept thinking of how timely the show still is. One episode I saw had references to McCarthyism.

20. One exchange...
The 4077 is saying goodbye to Blake. Hawkeye walks out in his robe and Burns shouts with disgust: "You haven't shaved!"

Hawkeye replies nonchalantly: "It's not a school day."

Irreverent humor at its finest.

birthing techniques to the Korean women using Radar's teddy bear as the baby.

Potter: Congratulations, Mrs. O'Reilly. It's a bear.

More favorite lines:

Potter: Klinger, you look lovely in yellow!

Klinger: Always a gentleman, sir!

Klinger: I wish I had your brains, Captain.

Hawkeye: I wish I had your beauty!

Klinger: There is that!

22. Fav: Blake and Klinger's letters about family dying and pregnant
Edited on Fri Jul-23-04 02:45 PM by underpants
Klinger comes in with a letter saying his mother is dying.

Blake pulls out a file of past letters

Last year Mother dying sister pregnant
Father dying Mother pregnant
"An oldie but a goodie"-Half the family dying other half pregnant

Blake asks "Aren't you embarassed?"

Klinger"I am Sir I don't DESERVE to be in the Army"

Potter had a memorable one with Klinger two. Klinger brings in a letter saying his two brothers died in a harmonica factory accident. Potter asks to see the letter-"This is in your own handwriting!!"

Klinger"I had to translate it from Lebanese"

"Where is the original?"

"I burned it, it is a Lebanese tradition when you lose your camel"

Potter"OR when you lose two brothers in a harmonica factory accident"

Klinger (nodding) "Either one"

Potter then tells him it isn't going to fly and to get out of his office.

Klinger"I'll be back"

Potter"I'll be here"

23. The "Captain Tuttle" Episode is the All Time Greatest
Hawkeye, Trapper and Radar make up a personnel file for "Captain Tuttle"

"Religion...um Druid"
"What's that?"
"They worship trees"
Hawkeye writing "Druid reformed...they're allowed to worship bushes"

Other greats:

Sidney Friedman: "Freud said that there is a link between anger and wit. Anger turned inwards is depression. Anger turned sideways is Hawkeye."

Charles: Get me Tokyo.
Radar: What, on the radio?
Charles: No, open the door and yell.

They did so many incredible non-funny episodes. That's one of them.

The final episode wasn't all that funny, just poignant.
