2. Picture on wall.........
I've got a picture of the Little Flower on the wall. It was left to me by my deceased parents. Yes, it makes me feel extra Catholic. It also reminds me of home.

4. The "Shrine of the Little Flower" in Detroit has a checkered history.
http://info.detnews.com/history/story/index.cfm?id=43&category=people

Father Charles Coughlin, "the Radio Priest" was pastor of the Shrine of the Little Flower in Detroit. He was the predecessor of modern media religion, with 30 million listeners. He misused his pulpit to support Nazism and Anti-Semitism. An example of his writing from late in his life:

June 11, 1973

"On this earth you must belong to the church militant or get the hell out of it. That's the right word. Your're either with me or against me. There is no middle ground in this battle between Christ and the anti-Christ. If you step out of (the battle), you're worse than those boys who ran off to Norway, Sweden, those boys who deserted the Government. You're deserters, rotten deserters."

This isn't to disparage Catholics; just to say that when you say "The Little Flower" in Detroit, you, unfortunately, will see most politically active people wince.

Currently, they display a lawn covered with little white crosses made of PVC tubing, 1 to represent every 100 abortions performed in the US. Just a tiny bit gruesome.

6. I know. Wasn't meant to go pee in anyone's cornflakes.
The shame of it all is the "Shrine" is an amazing Detroit landmark.

I really wish Coughlin wasn't part of it (in fact, the one who got it built). Sort of on the level of "never forget the HOLOCAUST."

I miss the chanted mass in Latin. Was like being transported to the Middle Ages.
