...and it caused a mini-dustup, but I think that Bush was actually quite handsome back then. I'm sure that he was still and asshole but if I didn't know him and saw those pictures especially the one with him holding the twins, I'd be quite smitten. But, alas, I DO know him, so....

12. that's actually the nicest photo I've ever seen of him ...

He does look genuinely happy (no sign yet that he would be calling the twins "whiners" and "pains in the ***"). As you say, if you didn't know him and were only going by the photo -- personally I don't go for arrogant slick types -- his Andover and Yale classmates noted that he was that way in school, and based on his Harvard prof's description, it got worse after his sorta-"tour" as a dashing jet pilot(!).

Somebody once commented that Bush wasn't the handsomest guy in the room when he was a youngster -- but he was above average. And I know there are some people who can't resist an opportunity to improve a guy (or better yet, "save" him from his own failings) -- so Laura might have fallen for him on that basis alone.

(or maybe she likes small, dainty hands on a guy?)

Ted Bundy's live-in girlfriend worked for my mother during the time he was here in Seattle. I still feel kind of sorry for her; she was a pleasant, unoffensive little thing. Kind of like Laura.
