Not much up here, thankfully. It's been two straight weeks of doing computer repairs and it looks like I'll be free to relax this weekend. :-)

I'd love a Honda, but since I'm 18 and have no credit, I pretty much have to take what they'll give me.

Be sure to take photos to show the grandchildren, or else they will never believe you.
Mine was a 1960 Triumph TR-3. Red with a black top.

:) And what year did you get it?

Actually, it's not my first car. The first one was in my mom's name and she refused to let me have it when I turned 18. Got one in March because my dad co-signed for me, but my left front tire blew out on the way to Panama City, FL and we hit a guardrail doing 60. So, yeah. I have the worst luck ever. :(

It's a great morning isn't it *breathe* ahhhhhhh...

Have a busy day ahead -- planning a party for 200 of my most intimate friends (lol) and have to work tonight 5-11pm :(

Oh and maybe a brief stop at the mall for *ahem* lunch *cough* :D

What car are you hoping to get? Maybe we can race one day? hehe

I really liked my '99 Altima I had before the wreck. But I'm going to a Ford place so I'm not being too picky, as long as my payments are where I need them to be.

4th annual summer party. :D I'm trying to find a theme for it, but so far I got a DJ, lighting team, a comedian, and a caterer all booked. Just waiting on the phone call from my parents when they see the credit charges...lol...

I quoted them a smaller amount than what it came to be. Ooops. :P It'll still be great. All that's left is the alcohol, bartender, ballroom, chairs, tables, and miscellaneous stuff. The rest will come from my co-planner's pocketbooks.

Of course your VIP...bring a bathing suit for the wet T-shirt contest. hehe...

And what happened with sticking with the Nissan theme?

Work will be blah...budget meeting followed by drafting memos and then research. :(

I'm totally there! Now where do you live again?

Well, I figured since the other two Nissans didn't work out, I'd try something else. Want a Nissan again, but maybe on down the road when the bad luck of the previous two wear off.

That sucks! :( How long do you have to work?

25. I'm trying to psyche myself up for another day of job hunting.
I am totally sick of it this morning. I'd rather play my guitar.

Now, Blondie, I know that you don't usually talk politics on your morning thread, but I have to tell you this: America's education system is falling apart. All of the testing requirements, plus the lack of funds to make improvements, is breaking the system down. Chicago is planning to close 100 public schools during the next 5 years and allow corporations and non-profit organizations to reopen them by 2010. The teachers in these schools will be laid off, and the new organizations are under no obligation to rehire any of them. This is going to be a mess, and in the end, it will result in huge swaths of poor, minority children receiving a substandard education--that is, if they even have a education at all: several neighborhoods will see all of their schools close, and despite assurances from the mayor that transfers will be made available, no specifics have been given.

I really did want to be a teacher. I'm still trying, and I'm going to send out about ten more resumes to schools this morning, but I have strange feeling that I am going to be headed back to the wonderful world of copywriting.

27. Hang in there.
You'll find a job, and I really think you sound like you're meant to teach. Seriously, it's people like you (the ones that actually care and know how bad of a shape our school systems are) that have the biggest affect. You don't have to tell me twice how bad things are getting. Funding is being cut in every area and even if your school stays open, at least one program will be cut from that school (if you think about it). That means your kids may get an education, but not about art, music, health, things of that matter. I guess that's better than nothing at all. I don't know what the world is coming to these days. We're so screwed in so many aspects that who knows how the hell we're supposed to make things right again? If they ever were 'right' to begin with. (I really hope I'm making sense). A lot of the time I don't mention politics on this thread because I think it's good for us to escape every now and then. We all have put forth so much effort into this election this year and will only continue to work harder. If we only continue to see the negative, we're not ever going to be able to enjoy the positive once something does come around.

And you're not going to go back to copywriting unless you allow yourself to do that.

31. Yeah, there are positives.
At least with all of this testing we suddenly see the deficiencies of the system. That means that we can fix it.

Hey, Blondie, how exactly did you get to be self-reliant so early in your life? I assume your own education must've quite comprehensive if you were able to completely manage your life so early in your adulthood.

34. Well, we CAN fix it
But actually doing it is another story. How many 'big wigs' do you know that want to take time out of their day to deal with the situation? Most of their children probably go to private schools where they'll never have to worry about funding cuts. *sigh* I think all we can do is keep producing people like you that actually want to make a difference.

Thank you for your comments, seriously. Education. It's kind of ironic how you worded your last sentence. I'm a high school dropout. There have been a lot of things in my life happen to set me back. My only dream was to go to a high class college, but unfortunately, life has a tendency to bit you on your ass. So, after many actions and consequences, I dropped out of high school in November of last year (my senior year). So, I'm not sure I have any right to talk about education myself. I'm not sure if you'd call me self-reliant or just trying to live a life. We all go through so many struggles from day to day life, unfortunately, mine just happened at a younger age.

41. Hey, another thing we have in common!
Yep, that's right: I, too, gave high school the finger during my senior year--I simply didn't go back after the holiday break. I worked the graveyard shift as a stocker at a department store for a few months, then I took a class at a community college to make up my credits. When I realized that I could actually take courses in things that I found interesting, I just went straight into undergrad. I took a long time to finish my undergraduate degree, though, because I was in a couple of bands that spent a lot of time touring. It wasn't until I hit 31 that I took out the piercings and began considering a career!

Detours, Blondie. Just detours.

Hey, how is it that you never get into trouble for hanging out at DU all night?

Things are going well....How did the chicken turn out?

Good luck on the car thing. My first was a 73 chevy pick-up...installed an 8-track player in it...life was good. Could fit 6 or so in the back with a cooler, had a sliding window in the back of the cab......I gave it to the Salvation Army in 86....

19. Hey
:hi: Glad to hear you're doing good this morning! The chicken (if I do say so myself) was realllly good. It was tender and the marinade was great (I let it sit in the fridge for about 9 hours). I put it in a very hot pan on the stove for three minutes on each side then put it in the oven for 30 minutes. Nice if I do say so! Thanks for asking!

And thanks for the luck - I'll need it. You know, no one ever forgets their first car. An 8 track player, huh? That's awesome!

The team lost on Tuesday. :( Kansas City came to play, they put the starters on field, which includes 4 US nat'l team players. :) There's a home game on Saturday. That, and I may have to be the good son and help my mother update her cellphone. Why it has to wait for me instead for more available individuals (dad, other brother) is, unfortunately, another story.

I like this for 'em--

40. Not that bad
But for anything needed, I'll get the call. Dad never really wanted the job (that's a longer story) and my youngest brother is a 30-something adolescent that STILL hasn't grown up. He's an artist/aspiring actor that doesn't work hard at it. The stage he works at is on summer break so he's waiting tables in the meantime. He's got a more flexible schedule, but he goes incommunicado for weeks and won't answer the phone.

Thus, it has to wait for me.
