What was the worst movie you ever saw?
Mine: A couple of years ago, I rented a movie called "The Last Man on Earth". It was a scenario where all but three people died. It had Jeri Ryan and one ugly guy competing for her and a younger good-looking guy who was after her. The ugly guy kept talking about the Shatabi Indians and it was booring.

So bad that I'm amazed that Patrick Swayze's career took off after this fiasco. Of course the freepers love it.

feardotcom, Underworld (which I had high hopes for), and this weird '80's movie about a comet that strikes the Earth, wiping out most of humanity. Of the survivors, everybody who breathes in the dust goes crazy and starts turning into ash or something. Anybody know the name?

BTW, the director moved on to shooting Marilyn Manson videos. He's much more suited to that form. He's actually a good video director.

The second wasn't as good as the first, but the last two were just terrible. Clooney takes some responsibility for ruining the franchise, but much more blame should go to Joel Schumaker -- what a shitty director!

The Cohen Brothers normally can do no wrong in my eyes. Eventually they had to and they did with "Brother".

Add on the fact that I was "abused" with bluegrass music as a teen and it makes "Brother" one of the worst viewing experiences that I've ever had.

I think half of the reason that the film is as popular as it is is because people feel "hip" listening to bluegrass.

Edited on Tue Jul-20-04 10:53 PM by drumwolf
That is the single most jaw-droppingly awful (and, as a result, unintentionally hilarious) movie I have ever seen.

"Drop that zero and get with the hero!"

:wow:

BTW, not only was Vanilla Ice an awful rapper with zero credibility, but he also has the distinction of being the only rapper to be a total wash as an actor as well. Every other rapper who has gone into acting has done quite respectably at it, regardless of how credible they are as rappers (such as Ice Cube, Ice-T, 2Pac, and "Marky Mark" Wahlberg).

50. I dont see how anyone can fuck up a Godzilla movie
it's the simplist formula in the world :)

What's sad is the original script was really cool, and had Godzilla fighting another monster in NYC.

God,it could have been so cool to see Godzilla done with Hollywood effects...but damn, what a stupid ass script they went with.Godzilla goes to NYC for PRIVACY? No atomic breath? Lays eggs? The people escape from Godzilla's mouth in a cab? Godzilla dies...DIES?

Oy vey :eyes:

As you can tell I was disappointed :)

The good news is this year's Godzilla:Final Wars has him battling 13 (count 'em) different monsters from past Godzilla movies in a monster bash free for all!!!

The bad news is it will be the last G movie for 5 to 10 years :-(

55. Don't despair
The director of the new Godzilla film did one of my favorite Japanese/martial arts/zombie films ever -- VERSUS.

If you haven't seen VERSUS then BUY IT NOW.

Excellent flick with a forced, heavy handed ending., September 13, 2003

Reviewer: Stephen Cords (Brockton, MA USA) - See all my reviews
I loved this movie. If Tarrantino made an asian inspired sword and sorcery epic with the design team from the first couple of Evil Dead movies it would be Versus.

I'm not going to rehash plot here. A few reviews here on Amazon already go through the story almost scene by scene. The acting is passable, but we're not talking Shakespear here. The fight scenes are excellent, but what really made this movie memorable for me was the camera work.

One school of thought is that if you notice the camera work in a film, the cinemetographer isn't doing their job. The first time I watched this flick I was so pulled in by the visuals that I wasn't even aware of the fact that I was watching a movie. I truly felt carried away by the film. However, when skipping through a few scenes I really enjoyed a couple of days later I noticed a very interesting tool used by the filmmakers. Each of the fight scenes is shot in a completely different manner. An early series of shots where we have no idea what is going on is patched together seemingly at random. Loads of quick edits get the viewer totally lost in the action. You really get the feeling that you're seeing the coolest moves and effects, but it's hyper-real and very confusing. At the end the camera pulls back just so we can see who is left standing and who is down.

Later there is a sword fight between two principle characters that is shot in a very interesting manner. When the combatants are in motion, so is the camera. When they pause between attacks the camera does as well. Very effective.

The only mis-step, in my opinion, is the hackneed ending. Where there are questionable motivations for all the characters involved and no one really even knows what side they are fighting for leaving a questionable ending would have suited me just fine. The epilogue feels tacked on at the request of a bunch of studio execs. Just turn the flick off when the last folks left alive get on the motorcycle and you'll feel like watching Versus was time well spent. --This text refers to the DVD edition

58. I've heard it's awesome from a bunch of people
The director will try his hand in America (rumored to be with Tarantino) after Godzilla:Final Wars.

I'm dying to see Versus....martial arts and zombies? Are you kidding me? How bad can it be? :)

When the combatants are in motion, so is the camera. John Woo always did this too in his Asian flicks...even now his camera rarely sits still. If done right it's a great thing. If done wrong (Armageddon anyone?) it's gives one a headache.

I have high hopes for G:FW...from all I've read this guy is a very good director already.

39. My pick
"King Kong Lives"

A friend of mine went with me to a double feature and "Kong" was the second feature. I started telling my friend what would happen next, knowing nothing about the movie, and I was always right.

When Linda (whatshername from the Terminator films) started to cross this river, I made a bet with my friend. I said, "She's going to fall into the river." and he said "No way". I then said, "If she does, we're leaving." He said "Cool. You got a bet."

Then she fell into the river.

70. So many to choose from. . .
The Creeping Terror - no dialogue, which would seem merciful (there's a legend attached to the film about the soundtrack falling into a lake), but it was replaced by a voiceover narration. The monster starts out as a huge tarp or carpet with two people under it (if you look closely at times you can see their sneakers) and gets caught on branches, rocks, etc.. Everytime it attacks, the victim is pulled inside. By the end of the movie there are a number of people under there and it moves around much easier. I recently saw a MST3K dvd in a HMV store that had this on it.

Night of the Lepus - that's right folks. . . killer bunnies. Little girl releases lab bunny that scientist parents have injected with an untested experimental serum to make them less likely to do what bunnies do best. Unfortunately, it somehow had the effect of making bunny grow and then infect a whole colony of wild bunnies causing them to grow (to the size of houses) who then set off to terrorize ranchers and livestock. DeForrest Kelly was in this one and got to kneel over a dead bunny and utter the words. . . "it's dead. . ." I almost expected him to whip out the tricorder. From what I understand, the MST folks never got their hands on this one.

There was a science fiction movie whose name I can't remember. . . there was an on going gag that whenever someone said "Blue Star" ominous music would play and everyone would look around for where it came from. Dorothy Stratton was in it. I saw a bit of it on tv a few months ago. . . it was every bit as bad as I remembered. Tasteless doesn't even begin to cover it.

Killer Tomatos.

I was in to the old Hammer Films when I was a kid. Most of those were pretty bad (still adore Christopher Lee, though).

Ecks vs Sever. Wow, truly terrible. Some action flick with Antonio Banderas and Lucy Lui...with the most idiotic plot line you could imagine. I can't believe my friend dragged me to that. I had no idea what it would be about before hand.

An honorable mention goes to Showgirls. I've seen late night Skinemax flicks with a better plotline and acting.

77. Signs, with Mel Gibson, may be the worst for me.
I've seen other bad movies of course (The Towering Inferno was the most recent stinker; I grew so bored that I started looking for special effects mistakes), but I felt like I wasted two hours with Signs because the resolution was so horribly idiotic (at least to me). The director seemed to espouse a solution to life that I couldn't disagree with more. He certainly has the right to do that, but it ruined what was an indifferent film at best up to that point.

like it's SOOOO dramatic....

M Night Shyamalan's......SIGNS.

I heard one of the funniest things I'd heard on local radio for awhile yesterday....a fake movie trailer.

"We have an understanding of the creatures in the forest...."
"There's a sign on my door."
"Mine too. It's a letter."
"What letter?"
"It's an A."
"I got one too. It's a Y."
"Mine's an M..."

{{{scream}}}}

M Night Shyamalan's....The Village....People!

Guess you had to be there. I almost wrecked my car I was laughing too hard.

terrible too. The worst part is that I didn't expect horrible.

In a related note, the movie "Communion" was wretchedly awfullicious.

The worst part was the book was so good, and they still managed to ruin it completely. Made a seriously scary book into a joke of a movie. That couldn't have been easy.

81. I've only ever walked out on one movie: Eyes Wide Shut
There are bad movies I've seen but I've usually gone in there knowing that the movies are bad and it doesn't phase me.

But I expected so much more from Stanley Kubrick and this was just horrible!!! The irritating music score, especially during the orgy scene is what drove me to finally leave the movie (and believe me, at least a dozen folks left before me). Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman have absolutely no chemistry together, but we knew that from "Days of Thunder" and "Far and Away".

WORST MOVIE because I had expectations of it being better

115. A strong second for "Eyes Wide Shut"...so much hype about Kubrick's last..
film, and IMO, it was dreadful.

The sex-stuff is so old-hat that it utterly fails to shock. The movie is plodding, tedious, and utterly lacking in any wit.

The movie is a sad exit from the man who gave us "Lolita," "Paths of Glory," "Dr. Strangelove," etc.

Still don't get why people my age think this was a masterpiece. I hated it...even thinking about it makes me feel a little angry.

This movie turned an entire generation off to politics with a single exchange of dialogue:

"Cool" Kid: So you have a fake I.D. but you don't drink?

Nerdy Kid: Yeah.

"Cool" Kid: So why do you have a fake I.D.?

Nerdy Kid: So I can vote.

("Cool" kids exchange looks of revulsion and disgust, as if Nerdy Kid was a leper)

I hated the fucking 80's.
