Any Nudists Here?
Edited on Mon Jul-19-04 01:09 AM by Wonk
I've never really understood the appeal of going through life naked, but maybe that's because I was conditioned from a very young age that people wear clothes.

I'm wondering, could any of you explain it to me?

2. It's Recreational
It's not "going through life" naked, it's being naked on holidays at secluded resorts. People who like it, like it.

3. I'm not but I have always wanted to be one...
I've gone to nude beaches though, and the freedom that you feel is amazing...

I've only removed everything when not too many people are there... for some reason I haven't felt confortable doing it if it is very crowded.

7. Originating from the Midwest...
the idea of going nude was frowned upon by others for the most part. However, once I moved to the bay area/CA where just about every other beach is nude or nude friendly, the discovery of being free (sort of speak) was very enticing. I do not consider myself a nudist or naturalist, but the idea of going nude, especially in public, is great. Just remember the sun block. :-)

12. we're fairly casual around the house
My daughter is reaching the age (12) where she's getting rather bashful, so we make an effort for her sake to exhibit some modesty, but it's a small apartment...

13. Swimming naked is the best!
I'm in the South right now, but back home (Nevada City, CA) we used to go swimming naked at the Yuba River all the time. Sometimes it would be just me and my friends, other times dozens of people including entire families. No big deal. To date the feeling of swimming in a bathing suit just creeps me out. Clothes sticking to your skin. I'm also one of those naked-around-the-house kind of people when alone. My boyfriend, who's from Iowa, cannot stand the idea of getting naked in public. To each his own, but I know that next time we visit my the Yuba River in my hometown, he'll be there in his Birthday Suit right along with me.

16. Hey LSU_Subversive !!! - One Of My Favorite Things To Do Was...
Drive up to Nevada City from Sac., have one of the best Bloody Mary's on the planet at Cirino's (plus their Italian Sub with prosciutto, pepperoni, provolone, pepperoncinis, and artichoke hearts), then head over to the Yuba for a day of lounging around and swimmin in the buff.

Ah... paradise!!!

14. Clothes feel uncomfortable
It's restricting and just plain feels wrong.

The only time I wear clothing is for modisty's sake (the absolute minimum - I spent today at a public pool, the only person wearing Speedos) or for utility (somewhere to stick my keys and wallet, warmth, protection from elements).

Speedos are the only bathing suit I can wear. Anything else feels clingy and wrong and I get panic attacks.

Obviously I wear clothing around the kids.

I'm a member of a nudist club. We get together evenings and weekends for parties. It's nice not to have to worry what to wear or all those stupid status games. Everybody's just the same - nude.

15. Yes, but...

The terms in which you frame the question aren't exactly right. It's not "going through life naked." It's a recognition that clothing is functional, and when clothing serves no function, I prefer not to wear it.

Living where I do, I am rarely naked in public because it is not socially acceptable and in most places illegal. I am almost always naked in my home, unless I have guests that are offended or made uncomfortable by it, in which case I put on as little clothing as is necessary. When it's cold, I wear pants, long sleeves and a coat if necessary. If it's hot, I wear as little as is needed and save on the electricity bills.

Bathing suits are silly puritanical devices that serve no function whatsoever except, perhaps, protection from the sun, and I won't wear them unless I face arrest by not doing so. And, speaking of the sun, when I do yard work, no matter what the heat, I wear a long-sleeved, collared shirt, long pants, and a hat. I do this because it protects my pale, northern European descended butt (literally) from being exposed to sunshine more intense than my genetics are prepared to accommodate.
