Cycling today. Wiped out on a pile of horseshit.

A few people use my bike trail for their horses. I don't have a problem with that, as they're usually over in the dirt instead on the pavement. Luckily, I haven't gotten my clipless pedals yet, or it would've been ugly. I was able to sort-of catch my self, but I'll have a few bruises tomorrow. Broke my damn cycle computer too.

Pick up after your godamn horse, cowboy.

Other than that, it was a fantastic ride. Did about 30 "serious" miles (peddling my ass off), and about 15 more "fun" miles (slacking and enjoying the view). Afterwards, I sat out on the patio at the Old Trail Tavern in Yellow Springs, read a book and had some beers.

Not a bad day, aside from the "danger-turd incident".

6. Well, most of it sounds like a great ride

You know I've been thinking of switching to clipless pedals, and that's one more reason to reconsider. Right now it's about a gazillion degrees outside during the day with around 100% humidity, so I haven't been too compelled to get out there. In May I did a 150-mile, 2-day benefit ride for MS up in the Florida hill country. Nice ride for a good cause.

7. Not much. I've just started getting into

road biking this past year. I've been mountain/trail biking forever, and this is something new. It's hard to plan any tours because my band plays too damn much, so I get in miles when I can. I'd like to do a few tours next year if I can manage it.

13. If you ever get the chance tour Holland on bike

I spent about a month, mostly going up the North Sea coast, but cycling in Holland is fantastic. Their bike trails are separate from the roads, and they even have signs and lights and stuff. One time I was out in the middle of nowhere and I got to a canal and the path stopped. All of sudden I see this little "bike ferry" coming across.
Over half the Dutch ride bikes on a regular basis, so they are more tuned into cyclists. Whenever you get near traffic, bikes are always yieled to. Imagine that?

Now, for a much sicker ride, you might try the Oregon coast. I rode form Portland across to the Pacific, then down to Bandon, Oregon. That was an extremely tough ride with lots of climbing, but the scenery was worth it. It also gives me the utmost respect for these Tour riders. Even saw whales along the way. But riding down the Pacific Coast Highway is like night and day compared to the wonderfully flat Holland, unless you hit the ocassional 30-40 mile headwind, which I encountered once.

8. Don't let Blue-Jay and me scare you out "going clipless"

Shoot, the sliced calf I got on my first ride finally healed after 4 months, and I've only fallen over twice struggling to get out, but I wouldn't trade 'em for anything now.

In fact, it's hard to ride a bike w/o them. I keep lifting my feet off the pedals on the upstroke.

18. personally, I wouldn't ever go back to regular pedals....

I've never had any problems getting out of the clamps that I didn't have getting out of tight toe-clips, and they're so much more convenient to get into and out of at short intervals. Plus, I always had problems with numb toes until I went clipless. I still sometimes get pressure numbness during long rides, but never like with toe-clips, and never as quickly.

I think I need a smaller chainring...I saw a hill today that even I might be tempted to ride the brakes going down. And I'll have to CLIMB that suckah!

21. Speaking of clipless pedals....

The first week I put those on my bike, I took a HUGE spill on the shoulder of a two-lane road while two cars were passing me going opposite directions.... Lots of gravel on the side of the road, and I was on a sharp curve... Good thing I fell to the right instead of to the left, or I would have been roadkill. My feet were STILL attached to the pedals as I extricated myself from the bike (and neither car stopped).

After that, I figured I'd read the instructions, and subsequently reduced the tension on the pedals.

It still didn't teach me to read instructions first.
