the "other" ten commandments thread

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049833/

I just watched this film (on DVD) for about the 105th time last night. Anyone else a fan of this type of movie? My other favorite biblical/Roman epics are Quo Vadis, Spartacus and (of course) Ben Hur.

The thing about the 1956 film is, aside from the grand scale (the exodus from Egypt, parting of the Red Sea, etc.) it's chock full of Melodramatic American Cheese. The character of Nefretiri (sp?) is a case in point: "Oh, Moses, Moses... they may be your people, but do you have to wallow with them?" Edward G. Robinson also has a bunch of hammy lines.

1. "Nyah, Nyah, Make the Bricks Without Straw"
"Nyah...."

Every time I see that flick, I half expect Edward G. Robinson to pull a tommy gun out from under his toga...........

:-)

4. oh yeah!
Sephora (Yvonne De Carlo) has a bunch of bad prose masquerading as dialogue. "You lost him when he went to seek his god. I lost him when he found his god."

Also I left out Vincent Price - Baka, the lecherous Master Builder. Dang, I can't remember any of his good lines now! Must watch DVD again!

3. Anyone ever seen the Zeffirelli's "Jesus of Nazareth?"

It looks intriguing. I see it was written by Anthony Burgess, one of my all-time favorite authors. (Read 'The Long Day Wanes,' if you get the chance.)
