MCI sucks
Sorry to rant but MCI is a horrible, horrible company. I have been going in circles for weeks with them regarding local phone service. I recently moved and had arranged to have them transfer my service to the new address. They told me it could take up to 30 days!!!!!!! 30 days to hook up phone service. Oh well. After 10 days of no phone service at the new place I got fed up and called another company, who switched in in a week. Now MCI wants me to pay the entire bill from the day I moved in until the switch to SBC (approximately 18 days) even though I was without service for 12 days. Oh wait, they would give me a discount of $6!!!!!!! I figure I should only have to pay half the bill since I only had service half the time. Makes sense right?? Now we are only talking about $30 or so but it is the principle of the thing. This is a total rip-off. Their customer service sucks too. I will never use them again. I hope no one does.

End of rant.

1. MCI is a horrible, horrible company
The Neighborhood is a terrible local plan. Just the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Takes up to several days to get anything right.

I went with them for a brief time, then got fed up and switched back to SBC.

Stay away from the dial-arounds, too. 10-10-220 is just vile!

2. MCI is the enemy!
That is the pneumonic device I made up to remember never to use them again. They billed us too much after we canceled something and we paid it, then they refused to reimburse us because they said it was OUR mistake that we paid! I canceled everything with them and swore never to use them again.

They are dishonest thieves.

4. MCI used to be a great company
It was MCI that brought the lawsuit that ended Ma Bell's monopoly on telephone service.

*SIGH*

5. You must have deserved it.

We keep a special list of those who deserve horrible treatment. When you call in we check your name and number against the list. If you're on it, you're in deep shit. ;-)

(ok that wasn't true, we don't keep lists)

Seriously don't blame all 40,000 of us for the incompetence of a few. We have lost close to 2/3 of work force since Bernie Ebbers and the other evil republican assholes from worldcom screwed us.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience but most of us work very hard to provide good service because we are scared shitless that we're going to lose our jobs. It's tough not knowing from one day to the next whether or not you'll be able to pay the mortgage.

My children thank you for hoping that their father (single dad raising 3 kids) loses his job of twenty years.

9. Sorry
Of course I don't want anyone to lose their jobs. I strongly suspect that their customer service has been outsourced to maybe India because the last two times I called I spoke to someone with an impenetrable accent of some sort. Which doesn't prove anything I know but still I wonder. I was just ranting from frustration. I suppose I will just pay the bill and be done with it but it irks me.

6. I had MCI about 5 years ago
They were the worst long distance carrier i ever had. When i canceled with them i told how bad their service was and how rude they were and they said sorry and so forth. I tell them..."Don't ever call me again with any offers, you have my name so take me off your list forever please". # months later when i move they call me of course, i told them to cheney off.

7. I have them now and I agree, they're horrible
I had Verizon for 6 years and had to deal with customer service maybe 5 times total. I've had MCI since January and I've lost count of how many times already... at least 20 or 30 calls, and that's being generous. And when I do call, I get nothing but a runaround and NEVER an apology for the many many ways they screw me over on a monthly basis.

Waiting now for Verizon to switch me back and take me away from MCI hell. I wouldn't recommend their service to my worst enemy :grr:

8. They're morans!

(sorry, bowens43, but they are)

I had a billing program that was 38 cents to connect, pennies a minute. Sounded good to them, I guess, little did they know that some months they would be billing me for ZERO, other months maybe $4 or so.

So I let an 84 cent bill roll over a month. They shut me off, I paid it up, asked them to turn it back on. A WEEK later (after being promised re-connect in 24 hours) I still had no LD service. ANOTHER hour on the blower getting THAT straightened out.

OK, so it's back on. A coupla $1 months go by, I don't make any calls for 2 months, then I notice that I was getting billed on my local carrier's bill for MCI at $1.87 a MINUTE!!!

I call the local carrier and say "WTF?" the take it off. I call MCI and get informed that my service was cancelled the previous October, 6 months ago. "OK, so why wasn't it turned back on?" "We don't do that. We cancel you, you're out." "OK, why was I told that I was being re-connected?" "Beats me..." "OK, then why, if I was cancelled, did I get bills for November, December, January, and February?" " I don't know." "OK, so my account status is closed, and there's NO balnce due?" "That's right" "OK, let's just LEAVE it that way, and I'll go with another comapny that's not so incompetant, OK?" "Uh, I guess so...sorry you had so much trouble...."

And this month, they're trying to dun me for the $1.87 a minute calls again.....Fuck 'em, it ain't worth an HOUR of my time trying to get clear from that error. Cheaper to pay it and avoid getting turned over to a collection agency. What a way to make money. Wish I could send people arbitrary bills and hope I get pennies on the dollar...

So I go with CenturyTel, which isn't a whole lot better. I thought I had 5 cents a minute, but they were billing me 28. Turns out I can't get 5 cents...They fixed it, though.....

Telephones....Most the time it's nuisances like telemarketers flying by night under the "Do Not Call" list radar or drunks dialing wrong....What a useless, abused invention....
