Have you priced peanuts recently? It'd be cheaper to just buy those gourmet tomatoes-an-the-vine than feeding the fluffy tailed rats. And I know because I feed my birds peanuts - in a squirrel proof feeder (yes, it works). Not to mention that if you feed them there will be a population explosion like nothing you've ever seen before.

The gray squirrels aren't as bad as red ones, but both will eagerly eat songbird eggs and fledglings. And once you've seen a squirrel scampering across the lawn with a baby Chicadee in it's mouth with the parent birds in pursuit - you'll never feel the same about squirrels again. And then there was the incident where squirrels got in my attic and chewed every wire up there, costing me a fortune in rewiring and presenting a major fire hazard. So, cute or not, they're vermin in the worst sense.

I relocate mine. There's a lot of controversy about whether it's kinder to relocate them or kill them, but I don't have what it takes to kill anything, period. So, I catch them in a Havahart trap and haul them 7 miles down the road. Well, the ones the cats can't catch.
