Freeper Letter To The Editor:
In today's paper (right-wing hometown rag) :

"I'm all for free speech, but this excuse (Howard Stern) for talent or entertainment should be stopped..."

Quick question: Is it the "free" or the "speech" part that you don't understand?

3. I can't stand him either,
but that doesn't mean they can shut him up just because they want to. And anyone who sticks it to the Bush Administration is A-OK in my book.

4. So do YOU want him banned?
Or do you believe in the Constitution and America?

That's the choice... you embrace free speech, or you don't. Choose.

5. I live in a small southern new mexico town...
and the local paper only prints right wing opinions... I've tried to make myself numb to it... all the papers are owned by repubs... It can get moderately to very depressing, that's why I come here...

6. Lamest, oldest piece of authoritarian rhetoric in the Universe...
"I'm all fo $CONSTITUTIONAL_RIGHT, but $THING_I_DONT_LIKE should be stopped."

Tied with "Why do you fear $ANTIDEMOCRATIC_INITIATIVE? If you haven't done nothing wrong you've got nothing to hide!"

:argh:

9. In which way this is "stopping" anyone?
I actively avoid, for instance, Domino's Pizza, and this IS for political reasons. Am I commiting a questionable act whenever I dial one of their competitors and ask for a pepperoni and a guarana?

15. The Cons seem to confuse free speech with...
Edited on Thu Jul-08-04 01:38 PM by tjwash
...the freedom to get in everyones face and push their opinions on them.

Free speech is not the freedom of being able to force your version of morality on people without having to face up to answering to a differing point of view. People posting, on ultra right wing sites, the names, addresses, and pictures of women going into planned parenthood, whether it is for an abortion, or for prenatal vitamins, and calls for readers to "exercise biblical justice" on them, are not using their freedom of speech. This is called thuggery, and intimidation. Regardless of what some right wing wackos would have you believe, it is wrong both legally and morally.

11. If you don't like it,
don't listen to it. The market will decide if Howard stays on the air.

14. Anything that starts with...
Edited on Thu Jul-08-04 01:37 PM by tjwash
..."I'm all for", or "I've nothing against", and then says "BUT...", is bound to be precious.

BTW, just my opinion, but I don't think we need to assign the "freeper" tag to the letter writer. There were many here at DU not too long ago saying almost the exact same thing word for word. Now that he is starting to slap B* around, the same people seem to be all right with him, just because he has actually pulled his head out and realized he was being a tool. Personally, to me that does not change the fact that he is a vulgar, sexist, braggart who lacks even the rudiments of any class whatsoever. He has the right to be that way however, and I have the right to not listen to him.

Just MHO
