For those wondering, the band's name is the Cumshots. Lead singer Kristopher Schau is a very famous comedian here for always seeking new ways to shock and appal the prudes. Personally, I love the guy, but thought this was one step too far. Not to mention the fact of the two people involved both being about as good looking as a kilo of minced meat in a sock...

I lived in Skien for a while and traveled around Telemark, Bergen, Oslo, but I couldn't learn the language. I kept trying to relate it to German but that wasn't even close. I lived with Columbians, Spanish, Portuguese and Brazilian people in Skien. I speak those languages well, but I doubt I'll ever figure out Norsk.

I can say this. Norway has an awesome soccer team (I saw them play in Holland for the Cup in 2000), and you guys make some of the BEST ale in the world. SKOAL!

Awesome soccer team?! Man, you must've been taking in more of our brew than you thought. We're crap at football (didn't even qualify for the Euros this summer...)

Norwegian does have some common traits with German, but is in fact quite similar in many ways to Scotch English. But it's a strange language, I'll grant you that :)

19. Actually, Skien was a very nice place - quiet.

I met your King at the millennium celebration, who is very nice also. Dude, compared to where I live, Skien is a very safe and clean place to be. Granted, it was very boring except for the occasional show in the Isbin Theater, but I was flying out of Sandeford (spelling?) every other weekend to Amsterdam, Barcelona, etc. so I wasn't stuck there all the time.

To be honest I am and have always been a fan of Brasil. As for your soccer team, I remember in 2000 you guys did fairly well, but not GREAT. I could have a bad memory for this, but it wasn't because of too much ale - I couldn't afford to buy more than one or two because it was VERY expensive! I watched how you guys drink: non-stop until you kiss the floor every Friday and Saturday night. Ha ha! I had to help my Norwegian buddies walk home on many occasions.

By the way, have you see Michael Moore's F911? If so, what was the reaction of the audience and in Norway in general? I read an Norwegian newspaper in English 2 nights ago that said Norway is very angry about the abuse of children in Abu Ghraib (so are the FEW Americans that know about it). What is happening in your government concerning this?

F911 isn't yet in the cinemas, but is sure to be given a warm welcome. Most norwegians (and europeans in general) are disgusted by and hold more than a little antipathy toward the US government and the doings of the USA over the past four years. Moore is extremely popular and well-known over here, and held in very high regard.

Our government is doing what all conservative governments in this country have done toward the US since the second World War, ie. nothing. Our foreign and prime ministers are disgraces to our country, completely incapable of criticising Bush and his henchmen in the slightest.

The popular opinion is quite vicious, though. Americans aren't anywhere near as popular over here as you've always been before, and it's all down to your government. Which is sad.

As for Skien, I'm sure safe is one word you could definitely use to describe the town, but boring as heck, surely? Never mind that if you got to fly abroad every two weeks though, good on ya! :)

Stop by and see me in Oslo the next time you're here and I'll give you the alternative tourist sightseeing trip of our capital, including some of the best pubs in Scandinavia ;)
