2. I was a disc jockey
when they had their hit. The title "Afternoon Delight" was taken from a crab cocktail; an item on the menu at Clyde's in Georgetown, D.C.

Incidentally, Bill and Taffy Danoff, the founders of Starland Vocal Band, had earlier been part of Fat City, which has equal credit with John Denver on his first hit, (Take Me Home) Country Roads.

3. Very Low
Silly, vacuous, 70's attempt at pop-folk. Partridge Family on steroids.

16. I Had a '73 Vega, Too
A red hatchback with white stripes and a 4-speed stick. Ex-wife #1 got custody of it along with the kids. her idea of maintenance was to add oil when the OIL light came on. Needless to say, the Vega was dead in no time.

13. David Letterman
IIRC, their show introduced David Letterman to the national audience. So they get major karma goodness for that.

15. Every time I think about STarland Vocal Band...
I think about that scene in PCU where all the alumni and regents, etc, are locked in that banquet room with that blaring from a locked cabinet. God, that's hilarious.

17. I had a very low opinion of them, until...
I saw them in concert, back in the late '70s. They were the warm-up act for John Denver (OK, I admit it, I'm a geek :eyes:),

Anyway, they were really good and very personable. They closed with an absolutely beautiful a capella version of Paul Simon's "American Tune."

I never bought anything of theirs but I will always remember them singing that tune.
