Child killer to be New Zealand's only boxer in Olympics
I read this on the way to work (took the bus today) and couldn't believe it. How is this guy not in jail anyway?

http://tvnz.co.nz/view/news_national_story_skin/431943?format=html

A man jailed for killing his own daughter has been picked to represent New Zealand at the biggest event in world sport, despite concern about the message it sends.

Soulan Pownceby was named on Monday as the only boxer in the Olympic team for Athens.

In 1995, Pownceby, who then went by the surname Rikihana, was convicted of manslaughter of his five month old daughter Jeanette. He was originally charged with murder, but had it downgraded

But One News understands the boxer has seven other convictions, the most recent for assaulting a woman just four years ago.

Women's refuge spokeswoman Sheryl Hann is shocked by the decision.

"I think it is really shocking, shameful and appalling that a man with convictions for abuse of women and for killing a child has been chosen to be a representative of New Zealand.

I sure as hell hope so. That story doesn't mention any time spent in jail. Please tell me you go to jail for killing your own child in NZ.

I left the paper on the bus but I believe that the article said he did 4 years (maybe 5).

5. Dude,
As a boxing fan, I have to ask...

Aren't the Tyson jokes getting old YET?

It's like Clinton and O.J. jokes...they're old, and they really suck.

6. that wasn't so much a Tyson joke
as it was just a common sense connection between two women-absuing boxers.

7. and? the US has a synchronized Swimmer
who will return from Athens and start serving a term for vehicular manslaughter while under the influence. She was convicted in January of killing her boyfriend and an 11 year old boy in an auto crash but the sentance was postponed until September so she could train.

and people wonder why the olympics are incresingly irrelevant.

10. It doesn't say SHE was under the influence
it says that her boyfriend's blood level was at .13.

Still, 3 months for two counts? That seems awfully light.
