Anyone go to the gym and workout before work?
Edited on Mon Jun-21-04 09:31 PM by oxymoron
I am basically a night person and have always gone in the evening. My workout partner/brother is wanting to switch to early mornings. How do you feel going to work after an intense workout? Since I'm rapidly approaching my dotage, I am concerned that it will wipe me out before I even start my day. Any advice?

1. I go to yoga class before work
It's not the same as the gym, but I like starting my day that way.

My advice would be to pick the time and activity that most suits you. Don't overdo it. The right amount of exercise should invigorate you. Ask a trainer at the gym for some advice on what to do.

6. I've just been doing some weightlifting and cardio.
I usually do a pretty intense workout for about 1 1/2 hours then come home and go to bed. I guess I'll give it a week. My god, 5am sounds ugly.

:hi:

BTW, I'm going to start a thread to try to get a group together in Seattle for F911. The Neptune sounds great. Do you have tickets yet?

9. No, but I'll get my tickets soon
Let me know when we're all meeting. There are lots of places around the Ave we can meet at.

I'm really excited about doing this. I need to be around some cool, like-minded DUers!

Back to your original thread idea, you might try doing your normal workout one morning and seeing how it goes. Sounds cool.:hi:

3. I have tried it and I didn't like it
but that is just me...I would end up needing a nap at lunch...

However getting two young children up for school/daycare each day is more than enough workout for me right now...

4. I ride my bike to work.
I had to lose some weight so it seemed like a good idea. It was hard at first but it seems to have paid off. I've lost about 25 pounds since then.

5. It's the best
It set's me up for the day. I like to get up around 0530 and get there first thing. I feel sharp, especially in the morning. I used to like to work out at night, but had trouble getting to sleep. You'll feel great. (From someone already in his dotage).

10. It is MUCH Harder in the Morning, when energy level is at a 24 hour LOW
When I'm on vacation I'll go swimming in the morning if there is a place to swim,
and I don't have to do anything that morning (key word: vacation), because it does
tend to wipe me out for a bit.

Gyms suck. I get my exercise on the dance floor (or dancing in the woods),
or on my mountain bike. You won't find me riding first thing in the morning.

You might find me dancing early in the morning, but I started the night before.

11. I find it REALLY REALLY hard to work out in the AM particularly cardio.
Getting up is hard, but even when up and motivated, it just feels like death to me. Possibly due to low coritsol levels in the AM (well established by science) or no carb stores from meals but it just feels awful to me so I don't really try anymore. Lunch or early afternoon is best for me. It just feels better so I don't fight it.

Weight lifting feels okay in the AM.
