California Dropout Scores Perfect 100% On GED

BURBANK, Calif. -- A 20-year-old California man who dropped out of high school to care for his ailing father has earned the first perfect GED score the state has seen in the past decade.

State officials say Zachary Olkewicz earned the only perfect score among the 569,000 people who took the GED in California in that period.

He is one of only six people nationwide last year to answer every question on the testcorrectly.

1. Amazing

Not that at this guy for getting a perfect score, but that so few other people do. Technically, I'm a "high school dropout" because I skipped my senior year in HS by taking the GED and going straight into college. I only missed three questions on the entire test (one of which was a simple "read it wrong" screwup) and found it to be pretty easy. I assumed, based on my experience, that perfect scores were pretty routine.

If perfect GED scores really are this rare, our childruns edjumucations are a bit more screwed than I'd realized. These tests aren't that hard!

2. My guess is that

most dropouts these days, do it in part because they are not doing well in school whether for lack of effort or difficulty with the material. So you and this other guy are probably a little unique in that way too.
