Anyone ever have problems with Wellbutrin? (Side effects)
Edited on Sat Jun-19-04 04:28 PM by Lestat
I just had the worst panic attack in my life. I was laying down and watching tv when all of a sudden I saw myself dead, wearing the exact same clothes I was wearing at the moment. I then felt my heart get warm and I started panicking. I honestly thought I was dying.

History: I started taking this pill 9 days ago. I was on 100 mg for a week and then yesterday I started taking 300 mg--all at once. I have general anxiety disorder, major depression, and ADHD.

Do any of you think this is a horrible side effect? I hope it is. I was afraid that it was a premonition. :scared: :scared: :scared:

EDIT: I just looked up some possible side effects, and it says "paranoia, anxiety (I have general anxiety disorder...this doesn't help), hallucinations, rapid heartbeat, convulsions, seizures, and heart failure (I'm sure I don't have that)."

1. It probably is a side affect.
Mind if I ask what you're taking it for? I have a friend that is also on Wellbutrin and she stops taking it every once in awhile because she says it makes her feel overwhelmed, and this is one of things it is supposed to be helping her with.

9. Sorry to hear that, things will get better.
My friend Kat is bi-polar, so she's on more medication than just the Wellbutrin, so her anxiety attacks could be caused by any of them.
But if you're real worried about this, the safest bet would be to ask your doctor.

10. I am worried.
I also have general anxiety disorder, so putting someone that's supposed to make you more active is insane, IMO.

3. When I was quitting smoking, I took 50 meg a day but....
the few times I took more than that I got as "spacey" as Buck Rogers
in the seventh dimension. :)

4. Why did you increase your dosage so much - you tripled it?
I would call your doc immediately. You usually increase dosage on those types of meds over a period of time - not so very quickly.

6. I went off it
Edited on Sat Jun-19-04 04:22 PM by Taverner
Seriously, I don't think that stuff was good. Despite what they said, I felt I was somewhat addicted. As it was, I had to go back to smoking for a while to go off it.

While I was on it I found myself withdrawn, antisocial, obsessed with small details and with a nervous tic. Since I went off, I have trouble concentrating, but at least I'm still me.

Seriously, try a more natural solution. Try St. Johns Wort. It doesn't work for everyone, but it might work for you...

14. Thanks everyone!
I've been sitting here for a month with Wellbutrin but I haven't taken it because I read about the side effects. I want to quit smoking and I've been trying to muster up the courage to take it to help me. However, I have panic attacks and have a mitral valve prolapse where I occassionally go into a non-lethal heart arrythmia. I don't think I'm gonna take the Wellbutrin after what I've read.

I'll just have to go cold turkey if I do quit smoking.

Thanks.

15. I take 300mg a day with no ill effects.
This is the second time I have been on Wellbutrin and neither time has it affected me adversely.

16. Damn, that sounds like some good shit
Edited on Sat Jun-19-04 05:23 PM by Hardhead
Actually, I took it once and it DID get me high. Strangely, I didn't like that, and never took it again.

Heart failure? Perhaps they should call it Not-so-well-butrin.

20. Too much, too fast!
Cut back to 100 mg per day.

If you want to increase your dosage, do it in 50 mg increments, and make sure your prescribing physician knows.

Most reactions like this aren't too difficult to deal with, as bad as they may make you feel. If it gets too intense, go to your local ER or drop-in medical clinic.

Good luck!
