Someone suggest a good champagne to me!
...This is a glaring hole in my wine knowledge. :)

I decided I need something good to pop for when my divorce papers come through (God bless Colorado, I have to wait three months for a divorce, but I can get a handgun tomorrow :eyes: ).

I've got a little bit of time to locate anything obscure... anyone drink the bubbly?

1. For a domestic producer, Mumm makes a good bubbly.
I've been to their vinyard out in California. They have caves for the aging barrels.

2. Just remember, $100 dollar bottles don't mean great champagne
Just means you paid $100 dollars for a bottle of champagne.

5. That's for sure! I hated the stuff until Havocdad showed me the light
with a bottle of bubbly which was arount $30. The expensive stuff people kept raving about left me cold.

He learned much while hanging out in Europe with people who grew grapes and lived in LARGE houses. He finds great stuff all the time, but one of our favorites is from Jordan winery. Bottle is dark green with a yellow/gold J on it. Really good stuff, and I am not a real champaign fan. Mmmm, try it with a really good, triple cream blue cheese (the soft kind, not the hard, crumbly kind).

If you want, I will get more recommendations from him and PM you. He does tend to forget a lot that we have tried and found good. Hmmm, you suppose it is the wine or the age that does that to us? I need to keep a book fo wine we try so I can refer to it.

3. get Prosecco instead (Italian Sparkling Wine)
Ramsey turned me on to it. I forget which is her favorite kind, but maybe she'll see this and let you know. I think it's better than champagne!

15. I'll second the prosecco recommendation
It can be had for $10-$12 a bottle. I can't think of who makes the one we buy but the label has "Rustico" in big cursive letters.

8. Yes, yes indeed. My favorite too.
Moet's White Star is my second. Both are reasonably priced and widely available.

Robb, life is too short not to drink good champagne.

10. I was given a bottle of Schramsberg 1999 Blanc de Blancs
as a going away/leaving California gift.
Haven't opened it yet. I'm not a big fan of the bubbley, but, the missus is.

Not cheap, but awfully good stuff.

Veuve-Clicquot Yellow Label is also good and more budget friendly.

with 11/2/04 - BACK TO CRAWFORD written on the label. Does that answer your question?

Edited on Fri Jun-18-04 01:54 PM by nothingshocksmeanymo
But if you want something more obscure and less expensive, there is a winery here in So Cal called Thornton winery and a few years back I had some of theirs and was pleasantly surprised by how good it was...in fact, had several glasses and no hangover

on edit: Pierre Paillard Brut Grand Cru is very nice too and a bit less pricey than Kristal..but I think the Kristal is easier to find.
