"The Highest Form of Politics."
In September, 1977, the Non-Governmental Organizations of the United Nations met in Geneva, Switzerland, to discuss the oppression of Native Peoples in the Americas. The Haudenosaunee (Six Nations Iroquois Confederacy) delivered a position paper, called A Basic Call to Consciousness. It was a message from the "elder sibling" of the "high tech" world. In part, the message was:

"Ours is A Way of Life. We believe all living things are spiritual beings. Spirits can be expressed as energy forms manifested in matter. A blade of grass is an energy form manifested in matter -- grass matter. The spirit of the grass is that unseen force which produces the species of grass, and it is manifest to us in the form of real grass.

All things of the world are real, material things. The Creation is a true, material phenomenon, and the Creation manifests itself to us through reality. The spiritual universe, then, is manifest to Man as the Creation, the Creation which supports life. We believe that humans are real, a part of the Creation....In our ways, spiritual consciousness is the highest form of politics.

The original instructions direct that we who walk about on the Earth are to express a great respect, an affection, and a gratitude toward all the spirits which create and support Life. We give a daily greeting and thanksgiving to the many supporters of our own lives -- the corn, beans squash, the winds, the sun, and clean water. When people cease to respect and express gratitude for these many things, then they will withdraw their spiritual powers, and human life on earth will come to an end."

2. Thanks!
Being an old man, surrounding by thousands of books, but lacking computer skills -- it has its limitations. Yesterday, I quoted part of James Simon Kunen's 1968 book, The Strawberry Statement. I think it should be required reading for young people. Someone asked me for a link ... and I feel bad, because all I know is that it's in "this" book or "that" book. I'm not saying that the books I have are any better or worse than anyone else's .... just there's a lot of great information in them.
