I've given up on Deadwood.
I gave it a chance. I've watched every episode. I've enjoyed some, to some extent. But here we are, the season almost over, and I can't think of a single storyline that I care about. Where's the suspense? What are we supposed to wonder about? Who are we supposed to care about? Why? It just seems like it has gone nowhere.

4. Deadwood is not a "plot-driven" drama
It's more of a period-piece docu-drama..

The characters are based on real people and composites of real people who existed.. If you know your history of the west, it's interesting to see things "fleshed out"..

People were like that.. The territories back then were the last refuge of scoundrels and criminals...and the "gold rush" there was a draw for people who dreamed of wealth..

With no law to keep things going smoothly, it was a wild place to be..

I love that show..my husband cannot stand the language, so he won't watch it, but I get beyond the language..

7. If you like "period pieces" sometimes just the quality
of the work is the most important part. I basically keep my TV on movie channels and educational stuff. There are no mainstream shows that I even watch yet alone follow. But I love this show! Its more film than TV series, imo.

8. That's my point.
It is interesting, and very well-done, as a period piece but it is lacking in plot and characterization. What characterization they have done has tended towards the simplistic rather than complex (e.g. Calamity 'cliche' Jane)

9. Well as is obvious I disagree.
You watched all 10 episodes and all you got about Jane was how she got her name? (her nursing in Deadwood is a true story by the way). I don't think you've been paying attention lol.

11. If I am missing some depth to Jane's character
Edited on Sat May-29-04 01:46 AM by Feanorcurufinwe
that's been displayed, beyond, "she's a rowdy drunk who loved Wild Bill Hickock", I'd like to hear about it.

I think it's a travesty that they took one of the strongest historical female characters in American history, a woman who stood on her own two feet in a world of men, and portrayed her as nothing but a blubbering idiot and a drunk, hung up on a man.

3. I love it.
I think you can take each episode on its own. There are plenty of story lines (Joni, Montana , the town's very existence, the racism story line of the last episode is pretty suspenseful). I guess whether you care about any of them or not is a just a personal opinion type of thing.

I'm totally bummed there will not be one this weekend. Building up to the final 2 I guess.

6. I think it's brilliant.
Best new show of the year for my money. I hate having to wait so long between seasons. Anyone know when Carnivàle is coming back?
