2. The question isn't if it will just suck,
but rather if it will suck eggs, suck ass or suck donkey.

14. I liked Stargate - the movie
The series sucks.

What I've seen of the previews, I'm betting the science is off, which will give the Freepers a chance to boo and hiss.

5. No matter how good the politics are,
I can't make myself go to a Roland Emmerich movie. I made that mistake once, and that's all it took.

On the other hand, maybe I could go to the multiplex, buy a ticket for _The Day After_, and sneak into _Mean Girls_ or _Shrek 2_ instead.

8. I like Independence Day
But that may just be due to the fact that I first saw it on the largest screen ever and was totally overwhelmed!

9. I'm sure it will entertain but why are libs trumping it up...
...to be some sort of social statement. In my opinion, tying this to some sort of political agenda is just asking for trouble. Seriously.

But what do I know.

11. That's the Point, Exactly
I don't know that it's libs who are trumping it, or at least, initially. I suspect the marketing plan was to get the libs excited, though. And for some it seems to be working.

15. There was some kind of symposium tied in with this....
..sponsored by Moveon, and with Gore speaking about global warming. Which is a great thing, but to tie that in with a Roland Emerich movie is just silly. If Moveon and Gore are tying themselves in to the movie in any way that's fine and their prerogative, but like I said....just asking for trouble.

17. It may be, arguably, the first liberal blockbuster.
ID4 and its ilk, even MIB, drive home a subtle, sometimes tongue-in-cheek agenda that has served the right well and suggested that the ridiculous military build-up is justifiable (ID4 even references the 400 dollar hammers!). Now the same team has made a film that apparently says to the El Rushbo crowd "No such thing as global warming, huh? Take a look at this." I suppose you could say that Deep Impact and Armageddon did that to a degree, but in both films it was the almighty Department of Defense (and NASA) that saved (sort of) the day. It sounds like TDAT suggests that the Green Agenda is the only defense against this particular threat.

And for the record, i hate every movie listed above, and Armageddon, and more or less Deep Impact. Stargate was horrid, imho.

19. But that's my point...if you think those movies suck?
Why would this one be good? Just because it has a veiled liberal agenda? Because the right wing has had their veiled agenda crappy movies so now we need our own crappy movie?

Again, to each their own. I just personally can never get behind the whole tit for tat mentality that a lot of people on the left that I know have (not saying you).

I've been entertained by the movies above, even while knowing they suck. And I will be entertained by this one, even knowing that it sucks. But just like I never took away any right wing messages from the others, I won't take any left wing messages from this one.

23. I doubt it will be good, despite my hetero-crush on Jake Gyllanhal.
I was just trying to answer why I thought libs were getting behind this film. It'll suck suck suck, I'm sure.

As for not getting a right wing vibe from those earlier films, I'm not implying it's a covert conspiracy or anything, just that the very nature of the us-versus-them plot invariably embraces the notion of might-makes-right, whereas maybe a Green disaster movie's thrust is more us-versus-us.

Again, not a conspiracy nut, despite the fact that "Man on Fire," featuring a charismatic movie idol torturing furraners with righteous fury because they hurt his golden white girl, premiered the week Abu Graib was revealed.

So the Green agenda doesn't come really as a suprise  .

No I did not like a single of his movies.

13. That's such a subjective thing it's impossible to say.
I loved The Patriot, Godzilla, Independence Day and Stargate, so I'm assuming I'll also love Day After Tomorrow.

To make a statement like "Godzilla sucks" is actually to may a value judgement based on one's own preferences. That judgement is not valid for anyone except the person making the judgement.

In other words, speak for yourself.

18. If You Don't Ask for or Expect Much
Then that's fine, for you.

For me, I want something that goes beyond pushing my emotional buttons. I want something that doesn't feature a dumbed-down script, with dumbed-down characters whose actions and dialog spring from inane plot devices.

For those who do ask for more, the line between 'suck' and 'not suck' can be measured in more than opinion.

16. I think that all FX movies suck.
And by FX, I mean movies that totally rely on the FX themselves to carry the flick. For example, I wouldn't classify '2001' or 'LOTR' as FX movies, though they relied heavily on them.

21. I am Guardedly Optimistic
Indpendence Day I thought was good. Godzilla was good as a monster movie, but the human interest backstory was pathetic.

I like big visual movies, and hope to enjoy this one. It's always best to know as little as possible about the plot, so you can be surprised, and to have low expectations, so you can be pleasantly surprised.

pretty fuck`n cool how they did it..really amazing the amount of work and thought that went into the movie..but...the movie will suck because it will have to have good writing and acting to pull it off..i`m sure it won`t that either of these..

25. Stargate was a good movie
This movie does not appeal to me. The science is all wrong. Global warming is not going to work the way shown and the concept that there will be an immediate freeze after a flood makes no sense.

26. Speaking as a Not-American,
Independence Day was an idiotic, revolting piece of self-serving crap, written for the sole purpose of perpetuating America's delusion of manifest destiny. Same with Universal Soldier and Stargate, though they weren't as bluntly obvious about it. I haven't seen any of the rest of those films, nor do I have any desire to.

I'm sure TDAT will be very impressive visually, but that's not enough to make me want to spend my money on it. I want my movies to be have some thought, if not feelings, behind them. Based on this track record, I don't expect The Day After Tomorrow to have either of those.
