Poll question: Are you offended by the word "scumbag?"
Apparently a lot of people who saw the word in the comic strip Blondie were.

1. the word doesn't offend me, but...
It seems like unusual dialogue for a Blondie comic strip.

3. It struck me that way too, and then I found out
that "scumbag" is an old Bronx term for used condom. It still doesn't offend me because I don't think most people know that. And I still think it's unbecoming of Blondie to use word stronger than "knucklehead."

2. That word does not offended me at all
Some people deserve to be called that but I won't say who. They know who they are. They live in a certain white house in Washington D.C.

4. WTF?
How can one be offended by the word "scumbag"?

The only people who'd be offended by it are scumbags themselves.

5. I'm offended
Further, I am offended by your use of the phrase "comic strip." I believe you are trying to indicate that you find it comical when I derobe.

8. Where was the comic?
Do you have a link to it? Couldn't find it.

Also, what does Debbie Harry have to say about this scandal?

10. It was supposedly in last Sunday's strip.
I didn't see it. I read about it in The Fix column at Salon.com, which linked to letter at Romenesko: http://poynter.org/forum/?id=32178

9. Anybody offended by the word DeLay?
They let the word "DeLay" as in Tom Delay over the air and in newspapers daily yet nobody cares about people of taste who retch whenever they see that obscenity.

As to the direct reference in 'Blondie' PRUDES can go to heck, how is that ; )

11. In gereral, no.
However, when my brother called me a "Democrat scumbag" last month, I was highly offended to say the least. He's the only Puke in the whole family, and I fear he's lost for good. It's a goddamn shame.

13. Yeah. I didn't even address his grammar.
I just excused myself before doing anything that I'd regret later.
