| AAAAHHHHHH! What a day I've had!!!! |
|
OK, I'm at work for about an hour this morning when my hard drive crashes for no reason. I spent the morning on the phone with tech support, to no avail. I tried running the drive as a slave off another identical computer, and it won't read, period. Dead. So, I spent the rest of the day trying to get my papers off of my email directories (fortunately almost everything I have been working on I emailed out to people so I have a record, because of course I didn't $@^#@$^ back anything up!), and at least got that squared away. Whew. So I get home, and the new computer I ordered over the weekend is in. I get it set up, and, OF COURSE, it has a bad hard drive. Apparently I have some sort of anti-hard drive radiation or something. And of course Tiger Direct will only take it back in direct exchange, so I have to send the entire thing back, instead of just a hard drive. Enough. I'm pissed.

As a librarian, I can relate to your "anti-hard drive" radiation completely....Let's face it, if cars ran this way, we would still be using horses...

| 3. I had two bad ones in a row! |
|
I bought one from CompUSA and finally figured out it was bad. Returned it and the replacement was bad, too. I would have doubted myself but the tester proved they were both defective. I thought the odds would be mighty slim two in a row would be bad, but there you have it. Guess I'm not the only one.
At work I scheduled XP's backup utility to backup my data directory to the network every night. Incremental each night, full on weekends. Trust no one. Definitely don't trust hard drives!

Good thing too. I had an ACOM ext HD STB, but luckily I had the laptop still going. Got a replacement in a hurry. I'd be dead without my datafiles.
