his name
is 'tonio.

strange coink #1: i had an army buddy named Antonio in nam ('69) that leaned against a termite mound 1 day, rested his forehead on the muzzle of his '16, & thumbed a three round burst.

strange coink #2: in '85 my partner in DC (Antonio F) pointed his car @ a bridge doing 90+ MPH on I-495, then capped his temple w/ his off-duty piece. the agency ordered me to not attend his funeral.

i retired early 2 years later, y 'tonio the cat showed up on my doorstep in Woodbridge w/in two weeks of signing out.

he died, peacefully, 2 years ago today.

telling this story has me in tears, 1ce again.

so it goes...

9. I sure will...
I lost my first kitty about a year ago, and every time that I think of him I seem to lose control of all my emotions. I know how hard it is, and I wish you all the best.

The only reason I haven't responded earlier is that I can't begin to do justice to the emotion in your post.

I'm sorry.

12. Few Things Enrich Our Lives More Than Cats
and losing a beloved pet is one of the most difficult things in the world. It's been a little over three years since I lovingly massaged Buddy's ears (he loved that more than anything) as he peacefully departed this life, and I still miss him every day.

Buddy was a pound dog, some kind of terrier mix, but the best damn dog I ever knew. He was absolutely devoted to his people, and coming home from work to him was a joyous event every day. He danced, he wagged his whole body, he woofed, he was a frenzy of love and joy. How lucky I am to have known and loved this dog!

Bertha and I have six house cats, and (right now) we are feeding four ferals. We also feed the birds, raccoons, 'possums (which, in honor of one of my cousins who tagged them with this when he was about 3 years old, are possils), the chipmunks who live under our deck, and any other creature that seems to need food and love.

Come on over to Waldorf sometime, jukes. You'll have a cat loving on you before you know it.
