I once knew a girl who thought the "X" in "Malcolm X" meant "Malcolm the Tenth". Seriously.

1. There are people who don't even know who the President is
Granted, I TRY not to know that Bush is our President, but still... these people aren't in denial. They really have no fucking clue.

2. I believe you
Though I'm surprised she knew Roman numerals.

Somewhere I heard that when "The Madness of King George" was released in Europe it was titled "The Madness of King George III". The title was changed for the American release because it was feared Americans would wonder what happened to "Madness I and II".

You'd think if there's one king Americans would recognize, it would be George III.

3. Sad, isn't it?
I shouldn't be one of the smartest people I know ('cuz Goddess knows, I'm not that smart!) but I am, because people are so intellectually lazy.

4. there's only one king americans recognize and that man is named Elvis
as to that curious american trait of turning culture into a commodity, ask yourself, when you hear the the sunrise portion of the william tell overture, dont you think that all REAL americans secretly yell out "hi ho silver, away!"
