10. I got used to these hours, having worked nights for many years,

making sure that the rest of the country knew what was going to be on TV. I fed my dogs, took them out and checked DU. And the TV news. Lou Dobbs? That's all that's on? He's better than he used to be and may be waking up but all I can say is "goodnight."

11. Still two hours of Excel monotony to go

I provide data and analysis to Nevada sportsbooks, inputting and calculating in the wee hours virtually every night. Tonight was a comparative snap, no NBA and just one NHL so I worked on next week's Arena Football and some preliminary stuff on next year's college football.

Have to get ahead of the game there so I can bolt this summer to Miami, Saratoga and then Athens(!), the latter if my finances allow it.

DU and a few other websites are a welcome escape when the numbers are too blurry and boring for me to pay attention. This tub of chocolate chip doesn't hurt, either.

Most of the rest of the world (in my time zone, anyway) is abed, it's peaceful, and there just seems to be more energy available.

Sadly, my alarm goes off at 8:00 a.m.
