Sirius mounted antenna does have to point north and west.

We just got ours up, and we found out the directions were right. With the little portable antenna we had to point it south or east. However the website and the direction for the mounted antenna say north and west. It is odd, but true.

So why the portable antenna had to point one direction and the roof-mounted one the opposite......I have no clue. Good reception, though.

1. Are you sure you're getting the satellite signal?

Because most receivers will use the terrestrial signal (from your city's repeater antenna) over the sat signal if it's available. Mine does, and I'm glad because I don't have a west facing window.

2. Yes, the radio gives you a meter to judge.

Only we did not know about it. The guy who put up the antenna researched it, and he found the meter on the radio itself. It gives a set of blocks that apparently show when you are tuning it correctly.

We had to set the portable one outside on a table facing south. Go figure.
