World Cup of Hockey team unveiled - Canada

Calgary — Only 14 of the 23 players who won gold for Canada at the 2002 Winter Olympics will get a chance to reprise their roles on the 2004 World Cup of hockey team, unveiled Saturday morning by Wayne Gretzky, the team's executive director.


In addition, Gretzky and his staff, which included Edmonton Oilers GM Kevin Lowe and Vancouver Canucks assistant GM Steve Tambellini, decided not to name controversial forward Todd Bertuzzi to the team.


Bertuzzi, the Canucks' forward, is under indefinite suspension by the NHL and as a result, Gretzky & Co. decided not to place him on the 26-man roster.


The new-look Team Canada features a number of players from the NHL's Generation Next, including Dany Heatley, the Atlanta Thrashers' 23-year-old wunderkind, who recently helped Canada defend its title at the world hockey championships in Prague.
