What astonishes me is the insensitivity of people. They act as if it is them, and only them, who will "solve" this "murder mystery." Forget that it's a real person with real survivors.

They don't give the family credit for getting to the bottom of Nick's murder and act like the only way the "mystery" will be solved is if ten DUers put their heads together to do it. Plastic chairs, orange jumpsuits, gold rings, yellow walls---AAARGH! I am sick of it. I have even seen a post (can't remember if it was here or in one of the thousands of conspiracy blogs) where a person suggests contacting "authorities" to reveal these stupid conspiracy-theory findings. Yeah, right. Call the FBI. Johnny has found two identical plastic chairs in Iraq!

Anyway, thanks for starting this thread. I just left DG and was about to start a similar thread here asking if things were this bad when Danny Pearl was murdered. That happened just before I joined DU, so I don't know. Any old-timers remember?

I hope this insensitive, GROSS speculation wanes soon. I will stay away from DU until it does.

...people knew the realities of war then, and they didn't have to be blasted with grotesque videos to know it.

I've seen the video. It didn't change my opinions about the war or make them any more profound. It did demonstrate what I have always known, and what I teach in my own history classes--humans can be extremely inhumane, in wartime or not.

Quit pimping the video on people who choose not to watch it. They have good reasons. One of our major societal problems, IMO, is desensitization to violence. Perhaps the people who don't want to watch the video have made the decision for good reason, and you should let them be.
