| 3. Here's what one handicapper has predicted |
|
The Seattle P-I this morning has a small article written by horse race analyst Al Smallman. I couldn't find it online so I'll just type out some excerpts.
<snip> Lion Heart will break on top from post position one, closely followed on the outside by Sir Shackleton and Smarty Jones. Rock Hard Ten and Eddington will be just behind Smarty on the outside. Borrego will be closer than usual on the inside. Imperialism will trail. ... As they turn for home, Smarty Jones draws alongside Lion Heart. Closers Borrego, Rock Hard Ten, and Eddington race in tandem, no more than four lengths behind the leaders.
Lion Heart and Smarty Jones battle in the upper stretch. With a furlong left, Lion Heart begins to shorten his stride while Borrego, who has benefited from a rail trip, lengthens his. Rock Hard Ten and Eddington are passed by Imperialism. The two leaders - Smarty Jones and Borrego - eyeball each other during the final 16th. Borrego takes the lead and wins by a head in the final jump. Imperialism finishes third, two lengths behind. </snip>
Figures to be exciting!

|
Imperialism, Smarty Jones, Lion Heart.
Earlier this week, I went with Lion Heart to win, so I'll stick with that pick even though the track is not favoring early speed.

Funny Cide won the first two legs last year.
But that was a great race.

It's been WAY too long since there's been a triple crown winner. I was rooting for Funny Cide, Silver Charm, Real Quiet, etc...maybe this is the year.

10 horses since 1978 have won the first two legs. Just saw that on Sportscenter.

|
Funny Cide was similar last year, but Smarty is probably an even bigger underdog.
Can you imagine his jockey? 2 Triple Crown races, 2 wins. There are jockeys who have had long careers (Mike Smith) who have never won one.

my eyes wide open about what is going on but it still is good to have something that really represents the good that can happen here too. A least there is some little corner of something that is not tinged with the evil Bush family. I hope he wins the Belmont in three weeks.

I don't see any of the horses in today's race beating him at Belmont.
He is a lot like Seattle Slew in his style of running. He can just run over any track surface or distance.
I believe he can win the whole thing. I'll be there to see hiim do it too.
