Keith Relf of THE YARDBIRDS electrocuted himself...
...on this day in 1976. Accidentally I presume. The family shunned a lot of publicity at the time.
Everyone who listens to 'oldies' or was around at the time knows his voice from all THE YARDBIRD'S hits: For Your Love, I'm a Man, Shapes of Things, etc...I was always partial to Little Games...
Anyway, just thought I'd mention it.

1. And I know
If you had me back again
I would never make you sad
I've got a heartful of soul.

2. And his 8-year-old son found the body.
Poor little kid. :scared:

3. His death was the main reason...
...I had my tech replace the old (two-prong) jack on my vintage guitar amp.

I didn't wanna go out the same way as Relf.

4. I thought he electrocuted himself in the bathtub.
Am I wrong on that, or do you take singing in the shower to new levels?

6. I heard he was playing the guitar...
(yeah, I know he just sang and played harp in the band, but he died at home) and electrocuted himself.

Maybe he was playing in the tub?

7. There's always been the two stories...
...the bathtub...and the guitar in the basement. The family shunned publicity so it never really was clear.
I've also heard that the young son didn't just discover the body but watched his father electrocute himself. Yikes...

9. Wow, it seems we're both right.
"On May 14, 1976, Relf died from a freak accident, when he accidentally electrocuted himself while playing electric guitar in his bathtub. "

Note to self... never, ever do that.

10. Definitely a bad idea.
Don't do any soldering in the bathtub, either.

11. So, do you know Tom?
Hell, do you know ME?

Rich, is this you? Mark?

13. Neither a Rich nor a Mark
Name's Ron.

I scanned that gatefold for anyone I knew named Tom, to no avail. If I had to guess, is he the fellow behind Clint (the guy wearing the huge cowboy hat) and with Bim leaning on his shoulder? I'm the one on the far right, sitting on the bannister, hand obscuring my face, clutching a Pabst as if for dear life.

I'm going to assume for now that we haven't met. But hey, we're young!

14. I don't have the record yet...
...so I can't tell ya which one Tom is. But if you do the Beachland often, I'm sure you've seen him.

Last time I was there was when Southern Culture on the Skids played with the Paybacks a few weeks back. Hope you were there, it was a hell of a show.

5. Shapes of things to come
That one is like a time machine for me ;)

"Will time make man more wise?

Come tomorrow, maybe a soldier?

Come tomorrow, will I be bolder than today?"

8. And the Jeff Beck guitar solo...
...such a gem. All those YARDBIRDS songs were great.

12. I freaking love the Yardbirds
Roger the Engineer is one of my all-time favorite albums.

And this piece of Keith Relf trivia ended up on my "obscure deaths in rock & roll" computer game I designed in class on my Apple II in high school. God, I'm old.
