Really, Cicadas are cool

Aside from the whole wonder of rebirth of nature thing, sitting out on a warm summers evening listening to the cicada's ...

Anyway, we are paving over their habitat at an amazing rate, so you don't have to worry (sigh). Most of them will find that they are trapped by a concrete ceiling ... or worse.

1. listening to cicaidas and drinking mint julips on the back porch

smelling gardenia and honeysuckle is the first thing I dream of in the dead of winter.

2. I love hearing them at night. Well I used to when I lived in NJ

it was great listening to the woods come alive and seeing all the fireflies floating around.

4. The fact that they are 17 year olds when the emerge is COOL

Practically old enough to drink; definitely old enough to drive. I never thought about how they start out so teeny weeeny and feed off of plant juices and whatnot growing and growing and growing into those large nymphs or whatever they are.

So I'm rooting for the little guys this time!
