Comedienne Wanda Sykes skewered * on Jay Leno's
I never heard of her before, but the other night on Jay Leno she really laid into *. Her routine was a full 3 minutes of trashing him and his administration, and Leno thought it was funny. (His Las Vegas week).

She started out with (paraphrase) "Anybody notice how *'s eyes are getting closer and closer together? That what happens when you lie." Every sentence from then on referred to his further lies and mistruths. It might as well have been Mike Malloy on stage.

And her delivery and facial mannerisms are so funny. She's really great. All I could think of was the reaction that * supporters got watching it all, cause I know they watch Leno.

1. I remember her saying...
that before 9/11 everyone thought * was stupid!

She was great that night. I haven't watched Leno in about a year so I missed her the other night. SHe can be funny.

3. You know, she probably lifted her ideas straight from the
"body language experts" in 1998 that reviewed Bill Clinton's "testimony" and speeches.

But actually made it funny.

She'll be "Dixie-Chicked".

4. Wanda is my favorite .
She is so funny all of the time. She had an HBO special last year that was hilarious. Also she is on "Curb your enthusiasm" Larry David's show on HBO. Also hilarious if you haven't seen it. She also had a show on fox which I haven't seen in a while, I think they cancelled it. She is great! I am really sorry I missed it. I never watch Jay I think he is a Rep. jerk.

she talks of Bush's villainous chuckle; and, to his fridge-worthy colorings

"Tongue Untied"

When Wanda Sykes graduated from Virginia's Hampton University in 1986, she dove into government bureaucracy, eventually serving as a contracting specialist at the National Security Agency under Bush, Sr. Bored, Sykes entered a talent contest without ever having been inside a comedy club; it took her just a few years to get from the stand-up circuit to HBO, where, in 1997, she started writing for Chris Rock's talk show. Then, after mouthing off at a party attended by the head of HBO Sports, she landed a gig as a commentator on the network's Inside the NFL; she also plays the take-no-guff friend of Larry David's wife on Curb Your Enthusiasm. Last spring, she entered the exalted realm of comedians who play exaggerated versions of themselves in eponymous sitcoms—Fox's surprise hit Wanda at Large. Now she's writing a book based on her stand-up, tentatively titled Yeah, I Said That (Simon & Schuster). In this era of exceedingly earnest (and thus suspect) celebrities, Sykes' tell-it-like-it-is sass is practically revolutionary. At last summer's Teen Choice Awards, Jamie Lee Curtis wore a T-shirt that said “Make Good Choices.” Whereas Sykes' shirt proclaimed “Elegantly Wasted.”—David Handelman

10. Pretty much everyone on that show was a co-writer or had writing credits

Except for Grandmaster Flash. But all those actors have helped writing in some way.

7. I have a friend who opened for Wanda Sykes at the
Improv in Dallas. He told me that Chris Rock and Jerry Seinfeld help her write her stuff. :-)

I had the pleasure of spending the evening drinking with Ms Wanda Sykes and her writing partner, Lance Crouther, aka Pooty Tang. He was also a writer on the Chris Rock show. After spending hours with the two of them, I can tell you that that woman doesn't need anyone to help her write her material.

As a matter of fact, when she left the table for the restroom, Lance Crouther told us (Mr Susang & myself) that she was the most talented comedian that he'd ever worked with and he considered himself very lucky to be working with her (they were working on spots for Inside Sports on HBO at the time).

Ever notice that when a woman comedian (or musician) is talented and starts to become successful, that it always ends up being attributed to a man? Funny how that never seems to happen in the reverse. :eyes:

on edit: Oh yeah, she won an Emmy for her writing on the Chris Rock Show. For the Halle Berry 911 sketch. She told me the most hysterical story about getting dissed by Berry at the party afterwards. Wish I could've been there to see it.

8. She used be a writer...
...on Chris Rock's HBO show...and then we he quit, started doing her own stand-up gig, as well as acting (her short lived show on Fox was hysterical, but got cancelled...she was the loud-mouth black reporter on a Sunday round-table full of stuffy Republicans)...she's never held back about Dush and his administration...
