"The Stepford Wives"
The remake is coming out this summer (I, for one, am going to see it)

The whole premise of the movie is so creepy. I can't get into that mindset...to kill the smart, headstrong, free thinking person you love and replace her/him (I suppose you could do with men as well) with a automaton who does your bidding and is there solely to please you.

Ira Levin wrote the book in the 70s. It was considered a endorsment of feminism. Or some intrepreted it that way.

I don't know why anyone would want to replace the person you love with a mindless, obedient automaton that would exist SOLELY for you. It's...perverse.

I guess I have way too much time on my hands to be thinking of stuff like this. :-)

1. It looks to me like they've tried to make it a comedy
I really hope not, because it was a genuinely creepy book and movie.

2. Paul Rudnick did the screenplay.
And he's said in interviews that when he saw the original, he saw it as a black comedy. I sure didn't...but will see it anyway.

6. I saw a preview of it on the tele ...
it looks like a black comedy. And while I never read the book, the theme seems ripe to be one.

3. There are people who would do that to their wives
They are called conservatives.

Everything you say makes total sense. You are wise!

Can I get you a Coke? Some snacks maybe?

7. One can be my maid;
one will be my chauffer;
another my cook;
I also need a secretary;
and the last can be my sex slave.

Oh - to dream!

8. The trailer gives away the whole movie (Hannity's McBride is in it)
I have seen the trailer for it 4 times and it pretty much gives away the whole movie, the ending at least.

When I saw that Martina McBride is one of the Stepford Wives (Hannity uses one of her songs-out of context of course-as his theme song) I almost did a spit take.

9. "Stepford Wives" is one of my guilty pleasures
I do have a standing request that, if anyone catches me reciting my vocabulary into a tape recorder, they should kick me really hard in the shins a couple of times.

10. It's an insecurity thing
When a man feels like "his woman" (or man) exists for him alone, he won't have to be alone. "Control issues" are about not being evolved within yourself.
