| I saw the Navy Blue Angels today. |
|
My office is directly across from Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta, GA, which is next door to the Naval Air Reserve Base. There is going to be an air show starting tomorrow and I guess they were practicing. The only words to describe them is "totally awesome." They were doing maneuvers, such as flying wing tip to wing tip and it seem they were almost touching. When I left the office, people were parked along the side of the road watching. It was hard to concentrate on my driving since I was looking up.

I got an opportunity to watch them practicing for about a week leading up to an air show a few years ago. It was extremely impressive. Those pilots are super talented. I'm glad they're on our side. They are pretty cocky though. They would fly so low you would think you could hit them with a rock. They would fly over water so low that they cause a wake. It's just like you said. People pull over by the side of the road in spontaneous groups to watch.

Good stick (gulp!). I got to ride with him in a T-28 in the late 60s. Jerry-Mac was also a graduate of the Navy's test pilot school at Pax River. He once landed a C-130 on an aircraft carrier to evaluate that kind of operation. The landing went OK. The launch, however, required a relatively stiff wind and high boat speed (the C-130 could not be catapulted).
Blue Angels .. the right stuff.
