My study group made our State and Local Politics prof cry today
Edited on Thu May-06-04 01:33 PM by Padraig18
Our S&LP prof lost virtually every bit of class-related material she had, or had ever created, in last week's fire at Blair Hall. When our study group got together Sunday evening, I mentioned that I had saved all my tests and papers, as well as all the handouts, etc. . Well, it turns out that I wasn't the only one.

As we talked about the fire and how badly it must suck to lose all of your research, grade books, files, etc., another guy in our group suggested that we could compile the all tests, quizzes and so on from our class and give them to Dr. L, so that she could reconstruct things a bit. A girl in our group said that her sorority maintained a 'test file' for lots of classes, including some that Dr. L. has taught in this and past years, and suspected that other sororities and fraternities did the same. Things just sort of took off from there...

This morning at the end of our final exam, we presented Dr. L. with 3 apple boxes filled with syllabi, tests, quizzes, handouts, outlines and good students' lecture notes from each class she has taught for the last 9 years at EIU, all properly indexed and referenced. As she fingered through the boxes, tears rolled down her cheeks, and all she could say was, "Oh my god! Thank you!" over and over.

Do a good turn for someone, because you might be the next one in need.

Cheers! :)

4. I've been in a tough spot before.
I know what it's like to have someone pull you out of a bad spot, and I felt (for myself) that I was only 'paying it forward'. :)

8. Thanks. All the news is so depressing and I hear some of the RW
take on the prisoner stories (saying its nothing, "liberals" don't care what happens to Americans only "foreigners" and terrorists or how people suffered and died on 911, etc) and I can start questioning my belief in people's innate goodness which is something I refuse to give up.

Wow, Padraig, what a powerful and amazing thing.

She must be quite a professor if so many students care so much for her. I'm even betting that the three boxes of materials were secondary to the fact that you all showed how much you care by helping her reconstruct her professional life.

13. She's an amazing person!
Her class has been a delight, and in addition to that, she's just an incredibly NICE person. We were more than happy to be able to do something to help her out a bit. :)

12. Wow.
As a prof., I'd say such an act wouldn't have just made my day, but my semester!

16. You're all wonderful people
Since we're living in a Kafka novel, sometimes it's nice to know there's still a Capra movie happening somewhere.

17. I remember the fraternity test files.
You could study those and know the questions you were likely to see.
You'd think the profs would change the questions once in a while.

I only passed Group Theory because 6 of the 7 questions were the same as on the practice exam.

The future might not be so bad, DUers, with young people like these coming up int he ranks.

Let's fight like the Wiley Old Coyotes we are to make sure we can oust the junta and give these youngsters a fighting chance for a future. Sure sounds like some of them deserve one.
