Man On Corner With Sign Warning Drivers Of Checkpoint Ahead - Arrested
<snip>

The president of Brothers of the Same Mind was arrested Friday night as he stood on a Liberty City street corner allegedly warning drivers of a police checkpoint a few blocks away.

The charge: obstruction of justice.

Miami-Dade police say Brian Dennis, 38, was waving a cardboard sign he made with his friends and members of the Brothers of the Same Mind, a civil rights activist group made up mostly of ex-felons.

''Police Checkpoint Ahead,'' read the orange sign, warning drivers along Northwest 17th Avenue that city of Miami police officers were ahead.

1. How is this Obstruction of Justice
No crime was yet committed...I don't think it's against the law to warn people to obey the law...which it seems like this is

2. my dad taught me to flash my headlights
toward opposing traffic after passing a speed trap.

I guess there was a time when people would get the message. Now, I guess you need a cardboard sign.

5. that was s.o.p. when I lived in VA
funny how they arrest someone for getting people to avoid breaking the law

but I think we all know why, and again I get that knowledge from my VA experiece: Traffic tickets are wonderful sources of revenue. Need more money for pork projects? Easy, just lower the speed limit by 10 mph on select roads, and park a patrol car nearby

6. In CT I believe flashing your lights to warn drivers..............
is against the law and they'll ticket you. I still do it though.

4. Boo!! Another win for Abuse of State Power
Thank God, big brother is almost here! I hate having freedoms, and having to figure out what's legal and what isn't. I can't wait until it's all illegal. Life will be so much easier - no more thinking necessary, just like our Idiot Fuckmuncher In Chief.

7. I "Fake-Flash" My Lights To Get Speeders To Slow Down In My Neighborhood
They always wave the "thank you wave" and I see their brake lights illuminate as I peek back at them through my rear view mirror.

Never hurts to keep them paranoid.

I wonder if it's against the law to "warn" drivers of a checkpoint that doesn't exist????

11. Good chance Mr Dennis can beat this rap

Here in Missouri we had a notorious speed trap in a little burg called Macks Creek at the south end of Lake of the Ozarks. Located on a steep downhill slope, with quickly lowering speed limits, it was a perfect speed trap that became notorious throughout the state and beyond in the late seventies and eighties.

A fair minded gentleman took it upon himself to post a sign on his own land in Macks Creek warning motorists of the speed trap ahead. Well, he was promptly arrested for obstruction, and was almost as promptle found innocent. Well, this started the decline of revenues from said speed trap. It all ended in the early ninties when the police chief and the entire department were found guilty of corruption, along with half of the civil government including the mayor. It seems they were diverting the revenues from the speed trap to their own pockets. And thus, the Macks Creek Police Dept. is no more.

For awhile they had to post a county patrolman in Macks Creek at random intervals, because many many people just came blasting through town, out of a sense of revenge. But memories fade, and it is only some of us old timers who nudge up the speedometer when we hit the city limits of Macks Creek;)
