Assassins on Broadway
Just got home from seeing this incredible show. One of the best productions I've ever seen on any stage, Broadway or elsewhere. Chilling, disturbing, thought-provoking, funny as hell. Expertly cast, beautifully sung (I think Neil Patrick Harris - Doogie Houser to most of us - has a real future on Broadway), magnificantly staged. If you've never seen the show, or have only heard the original cast album, be prepared for a dark and powerful show. Any DUers living in the tri-state area, you've got to see this show.

1. Ooooh, I'm so jealous
I love Assassins but have only seen a quite credible local production. Would love to get to NYC for it. Actually, Neil Patrick Harris recently did the role of Toby in a concert version of "Sweeney Todd" and he was marvelous. Gorgeous voice.

2. Cool! I just saw "Sly Fox" the other night,
with Richard Dreyfuss and Rene (I'm gonna spell this wrong) Aberjenois and the guy who played the tuppie husband/boyfriend of Newhart's maid in "NewHart" and some others. I went Wednesday, and sadly, Dreyfuss hurt his back, so Rene played his role, but the play was HILARIOUS.

I was supposed to be seeing Judd Hirsch in "Sixteen Wounded", a VERY WELL received play in London and elsewhere about a Jewish guy and a Palestinian guy who become good and fast friends, on Tuesday night, but for whatever reason the show wasn't popular here in NYC and closed Sunday, after being open for only a couple weeks, and I'm totally pissed about this. I love Judd Hisrch, and the play itself seemed so incredible and what I am interested in, and I missed it - thankfully, I'll get my ticket cost back, but still have to eat the $10 or whatever in Telecharge (when I'm president, telecharge will be handed off to the hague) fees.

I'm glad you had a good time! I haven't heard of the play you went to, but it totally sounds up my alley as something I'd enjoy, and so I will check it out.

3. "Presidents are not murdered,
shopkeepers and adulterers are murdered. When a president is killed he is assassinated. Take the man who assassinated Caesar"

"Brutus!"

(archly)"Oh? You know him? Brutus assassinated Caesar some two thousand years ago and here we have a high-school dropout with a dollar-twenty-five an hour job who knows his name, and they say fame is fleeting."

(I think thats how it goes)

4. Exactly right.
Booth was great. The whole cast was spot-on. We're gong to try to see it again. A powerful, powerful work, especially for these times. And Sondheim's added a song, "Something Just Broke"; people singing about how they heard of Kennedy's assassination, and their reaction. Beautiful and moving.

The more I reflect on the show, the more I come to think it's the best thing I've ever seen on Broadway.

5. I can believe you
I quoted that from the memory of an NPR piece on the show that I heard ...*shrug* more than 3 days ago.
