1. Get thee to a shelter....
...and adopt a real one, silly.

4. If you adopt an older kitty
...from the Humane Association, you'll likely get one who has been taught some basic manners, and who responds to "get down" and "good kitty." It takes a little longer to bond with an adult kitty, but it's usually worth the wait.

I've adopted two adult cats. Both of them are grateful.

7. Go to your local humane shelter and adopt a few
Most shelters charge about $75 for a cat and the cat has everything done to it so they're ready to take home (Fixed, shots, tests, etc).

I see you're in the DC area. If you come to Delaware I can hook you up with the shelter where I adopted Evita. They have wonderful cats who need homes!!

8. I went with a lady who adopted from the DC Animal Shelter
Despite what the media would have you think they were very caring and she got a beautiful orange tabby cat whom she named Leo.

I'm sure they have someone there for you.

10. Aren't you in DC, hon?
If the idea of the shelter doesn't appeal to you (and I've been there, so I can understand), check out PetsMart. They always have kitties in need of adoption, and they usually have taken care of shots and neutering.

Have fun, and keep us posted!
