Like for instance, Goddess of Guinness's thread about 6,000 (congrats GoG! :toast: ) made me wonder, for some disconnected reason, how to write 6,000 in Roman numerals. Is it MMMMMM? I kinda doubt it. Does anyone know the answer, or do I have to go look it up on Google?

8. Excellent site.
:toast:

According to that site, the largest Roman numerals tend to refer to dates, hence they rarely had need to use anything above M. But someone came up with the rule that if you put a bar over a numeral, you multiply it by 1,000. So 6,000 would be VI with a bar over it.

6. 6,000 can't be represented in normal Roman numerals. . .
they can only go up to 4,999

BUT, there are expanded numbers that the Romans used:

See http://www2.inetdirect.net/~charta/Roman_numerals.html for more info.
