The Pixies are back!!!!!!!!!
I just read a Newsweek article about the Pixies reuniting. It prompted a 2 hour Pixies-listening binge and, most likely, an infusion of Pixies music back into my rotation.

"We've got to get some beer, we've got no atmosphere"

As the article states, the Pixies were so cutting-edge that most of their albums could be released tomorrow. I agree.

Any other Pixies fans?

2. Pixies
I miss them much, as well as the second incarnation of the Breeders (Kim & Kelly Deal, Jim McPherson, Josephine Wiggs).

3. Pixies Rock
Surfer Rosa/Come on Pilgrim were great.

Does that story have a link?

I loved Trompe Le Monde too, a friend of mine went to the concert for the last show and at the beginning of the show with fans screaming Blackie Francis went to the microphone and said "I'm so tired." A bit of a downer if you ask me, I think they were just sick of it after so long, but I am glad to hear they are back and hope that they will put out some fresh material.

11. man, this is going to sound pathetic but those realaudio clips
were enough to give me gooseflesh. i was a bit apprehensive about this reunion, they were really staking their legacy and legendary status on this tour . . . but all i heard was flawless execution of three well-crafted, violent, inimitable rock & roll songs, and after fourteen stinking years of neglect!

i may just have to see them now!

5. Pixies were the greatest...
I remember buying Doolittle the day it came out and listening to it about 40 times in a row... "I wanna grow up to be, be a Debaser..."

Hope I can see the reunion tour!

8. Frank has said 'everyone needs a little extra cash'
I dig the brazenness.
He split the band up by fax, first time around.

9. I wonder what the band will sound like
I haven't been that crazy over the last few Frank Black solo albums. Frank needs to see some more UFOs. His best writing came from that era.

B-)

Pixies were overrated, still are.

No one gave rat's ass until Kurt said that it was a big inspiration, and the legend grew. They have some good music, but they are no better than Jesus and Mary Chain, or Killing Joke, or tons of other bands around that time period.

13. I totally disagree
I was listening to the Pixies for years before i even heard of Nirvana. IMO the Pixies were the best of all the late 80's early 90's college bands.

15. Well, you were in a minority...

They are selling out shows now to Nirvana fans and I think Frank Black knows it.

16. I disagree also.
I was listening to them WAY before Nirvana and, actually, never heard that Nirvana liked them. Pixies songs are not very "deep," but they totally rock.

17. I agree
I was a college DJ back in the late 80's, and had to play their dreary crud. They are appealing if you're into suburban nihilism and self-absorbent angst. The epitome of hipper-than-thou pretension, which was (is?) the common currency on college playlists.

As a rule, I don't take the music recommendations of Newsweak seriously. Probably a nostalgic 30-something on their staff put that article together.
