Freepers, gays, and DU question

Ok, first off, I'm straight, and not in the least homophobic.
(Just making sure here...)

I've noticed several open gays and lesbians here at DU, and I have yet to see any of the rampant gay-bashing I see all too often from Freepers and L-Dotters.

I'm just curious, has there ever been openly gay or lesbian Freepers or L-Dotters?
I honestly can't think of any, even the "Log Cabin Republicans" get slammed all the time there.

Really. FReepers hate EVERYONE. Gays, Blacks, women, Muslims, Jews, Christians who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, members of other (gasp!) religions, you name it.

Of course, most of all, they hate THEMSELVES.

That's what led them to become FReepers in the first place.

I guess the Freepers actually have standards the L-Dotters don't have.

One of the things that has amazed me throughout the past four years is extent to which the repugs have sought to alienate so many different groups of people. We gays are only one.

It amazes me that there is any repug base left.

dissed me over and over and I didn't write anything that controversial, just the facts (e.g. gays are NOT child molesters...that sorta thing).

You want to really see them at the height of their stupidity?
Go to the religion section, and do a keyword search on "creation."

The creationists seem to out-number those who know real science.

...there is homophobia present here on DU.

A lot of people do like to seek out negative attention, and they know, what is a hot button with us queers. They will post either some stealth bigoted remark, or show some real homophobia. Don't get me wrong, Archae, I know that most here are pro gay, but people really do need to realize that there are anti gay people here as well.

Maybe we need to begin looking in our own yard before we look at how queers are treated in another yard, huh?

There is also a reflexive reaction, to serious questions like the one I asked.
I put the qualifier statement in just to make sure I wouldn't be misunderstood.

I was talking a few days ago to a gay fellow I know, and we were trying to figure out exactly what is the appeal of the Log Cabiners.

He told me, "There are greedy assholes among us gays, too."
We both got a laugh from that one.

We spent most of lunch cracking jokes about Andrew Sullivan.

I don't respect the LCR, or any queers who do associate themselves with the devil's party, but regardless they are still members of the queer community at large.

There is a lot of talk though, that the LCR won't be endorsing Bush* this year, so there goes the 25% of the gay vote Bush* did receive in 2000.

Queers do come to a point in their life where they begin to think of what is more important to them. Unfortunately some will consider money above anything else.

I am beginning to feel sorry for them in a way I guess, because it is sad to learn you are an outcast amongst your peers, just because of who you sleep with. A lot of us who are on the left have been learing that very lession as well. I am talking from experience, and guess that is why I am beginning to feel for the LCR in so many ways. Empathy is a weird thing.
