I made a process server cry last night..

My roommates and I were leaving the house to head downtown for coffee when this girl comes roaring up in her camy colored SUV. There were four of us but for some reason she singled me out. She started waving her badge around and asked if I was James. Keep in mind, I am without hearing aids and can't hear very well without them. I thought she asked if I was "Jason". So I said, "yes".

She presented me with some court papers and I scanned them real quick to figure out who in the hell would be suing me. That is when I realized she had the wrong guy....

Me:Oh, this isn't me..
Server:Well, you said you were James..
Me:I am sorry, I thought you said "Jason"..I am hearing impaired (started to walk away)
Server:Sir, I work for the city and county of Denver,I will have the police come right now!!
Me:I am telling you, this isn't me..Christian, could you please tell this girl that I am hearing impaired and that I misunderstood her?

It got really ugly after that. She was jumping bad in my face waving her badge around the whole time..She didn't believe that I was hearing impaired and wouldn't let me go. She finally asked for my ID and when she was satisfied that I wasn't the guy she was looking for,she was still being rude telling me that EVERYONE lies to her, so she was justified in her behaviour..that is when I got MAD!!!

Me:Now..who the hell are YOU?!?!?
Server:Sir, I am so sorry...
Me:What is your name? Who is your supervisor?
Server tears started flowing) Sir, I am so sorry, I had no idea..
Me:Let me get your badge number..
Server hiding the badge with her hand)
Me:OH!!! YOU WERE WAVING THAT BADGE AROUND WHEN YOU FIRST APPROACHED ME! NOW YOU ARE GOING TO HIDE IT?!?!?
ME:That's fine, I will take your plate number..I AM GOING TO SUE YOU!

She almost fainted dead away, her knees were buckling and her whole body was heaving with sobs. That is when I turned around and realized that one of my friends filmed the incident with her cam.

I bet she didn't sleep well last night. HA HA!!

First thing Monday, I am calling to file a complaint. This incident was total crap. She should have accepted my explanation for misunderstanding her. The sign language was a great clue...she just couldn't believe that she was WRONG...

You know very little about this woman except that she made a mistake based on your own statements. Whether you are hearing-impaired or not, she's just trying to do her job.

You were wrong to go off on her. She didn't do you any harm, just ruffled your feathers a bit. You can be bigger about this than what you've shown here.

and she had no reason to hide her badge when she was proven wrong. She harassed him and handled it poorly. She is a human, correct, but poorly equipped, at least on this day, for her job.

The process server was at least a bully. And, though I do not know the elements of law sufficiently well to be certain - this smacks of impersonating a police officer. That would be a crime.

Fascism has many faces. I do believe that the process server here was one of them. And if we truly believe that ordinary people - and the weak and poor who are ill-equipped to resist such treatment - shouldn't be abused in this manner, do our beliefs not demand that we act to oppose this?

The harassment needs to be ended. Criminal charges and a lawsuit should serve to focus the mind wonderfully.

EVERYONE deserves the benefit of the doubt until you know the person.

I TOLD her that I was hearing impaired and she didn't believe me. That's like telling a guy in a wheelchair to use the stairs.

She was right. EVERYONE lies to her. It is part of the game. You could have just shown her your ID when you realized whe was looking for James instead of Jason. Or asked Jason Who? Instead you became "the victim" which I suspect you enjoy.
